Finished up final day of Murph prep this morning with 3/4 mile run, 80 pullups, 160 pushups, 240 squats, and 3/4 mile run.

How are you guys splitting up the meat of the workout? Those pushups absolutely blow my arms and shoulders up to the point that I am cramping up in both shoulders during that final run.

I wanted to split them into 10 rounds of 10/20/30 this year because 10 rounds is a lot less daunting in my mind than 20 rounds of 5/10/15 but 10 sets of 20 pushups might be a dumb idea for me.

Pullups and squats are fine but those stinkin push ups are rough

How is your form? Maybe you can get your shoulders less involved.

I have tried varying my arm placement to see what works best. I feel like the problem is mainly just the volume of that workout plus the 20lb vest.

Has anyone tried splitting them 5 pullups/5 pushups/15 squats/5 pushups? I watched a video saying that might help with arm fatigue from pushups

I did this last year because I was very undertrained and it did help. Its just slower.

Rx is 100/200/300 straight through. I’ve done it like that with a vest a couple times but I don’t know this year. Not sure I want to wreck my body at this age. 20 rounds of Cindy is pretty easy 5/10/15.

I always do 5/10/15. If I do it 10/20/30 the push ups start to slow down pretty quickly with the vest on.

I’m also toying with the idea of doing 5/10/15 for 3 sets, 10/20/30 for one set, repeat 4 times. To break up the monotony.

Murph is my favorite workout of the year. Can’t wait!

Cindy style
5/10/15 for 20 sets with 20# vest

I tell myself every spring to start working in push-up volume but Murph always sneaks up on me and get wrecked halfway through

I do a daily workout of 50 pushups, 50 squats, 50 lunges, 50s wall sit, and 50s plank. It is pretty trivial but it gets the blood flowing.

I split my murph into:

1 mile run
20 sets of 5 pullups, 10 pushups, 15 squats.
1 mile run

The pullups are the limiting factor for me. Everything else is pretty easy.

I don't know how y'all do that shite. This is not an exaggeration, I've thought about it before, it would probably take me 3 days to do Murph one time.

doing it for the first time this year at 38. Planning on running the Cindy and not too worried about the time. Just want to finish and not hurt myself too bad. Definitely makes me consider my food and alcohol intake for the Memorial Day weekend as well... Good luck!

I respect anyone that can even make an honest attempt at these kinds of workouts. Rx'd or scaled, no matter, it takes a beast to do something like Murph.

Doing my first one tomorrow at 45. I'll do the 5/10/15 split. Wish me luck.

Any tips?

It’s not bad. I’m drinking tonight so I’ll be dehydrated as shite. Don’t drink tonight. That’s my tip.

I’m doing my first one in the morning too.

Stupid question, but what the time look like? LSU plays at noon so I need to make sure I have enough time before the game.

45 minutes to 1:30 minutes depending on how you do it and your fitness level.

I’d like to think I’m average . To be honest I’m worried about the pull ups. I’m planning on doing the 5/10/15. So fingers crossed.

Push ups are usually the thing that gets spicy. You can do single pull ups if necessary. Once you hit the wall on the push ups it’s tough. You using a vest?

You’ll be good then. I’ve done it partitioned like that with no vest in about 40 minutes. You should be finished within an hour.
