Tulane University suspended several students Tuesday, less than a day after pro-Palestinian protestors erected tents on the Uptown New Orleans campus.

Vonne Crandell, a Tulane senior and spokesperson for the protesters, said he received a disciplinary letter from the university Tuesday morning. The letter accused him of several infractions, including interfering with education and disorderly conduct, and said he was suspended and barred from campus “effective immediately,” Crandell said.

He said he knew of at least three other students who received suspension notices Tuesday in response to the unsanctioned campus protest.

Crandell said protesters plan to remain in place until the university accedes to their demands, which include calling on the university to financially divest from Israel and demand a ceasefire in the ongoing war in Gaza.

“We’re not going to leave until our demand are met,” he said, “or they mass arrest us.”

Isn't Tulane's student body almost 50% Jewish?

I'm in the beating Red heart of Central Oklahoma and I can smell the tents from here.

And we have a westerly wind today.

I don’t understand what the protesters think that these colleges can do to affect the decisions made by Israel to protect its border/people? How the frick is Tulane going to influence Netanyahu? Seriously, these sheep are so easily manipulated.

I wish Tulane, and all of these universities would man up, identify and suspend everyone of these students who participate in this crap, and arrest any non students who participate in this crap. Also each university would put a letter in each students records that would be given to any prospective employer letting them know what type of person they were looking to hire. I know for one, I would NEVER hire anyone who participated in any type of activism like this. Just don't need the drama at work.

You must admit; these young high minded idealists are very enthusiastic about the torture, rape, murder and kidnapping of Israelis and American civilians in their homes . These are definitely fully formed moral beings united in their dream that Jewish women and children should be targeted for death in the most grisly possible manner. Heartwarming, really.

They will be disappointed to learn that they will be arrested and not have their demands met.

If you are going to fight for a cause you have to know your goals and have an off-ramp.

Tulane has been a huge school for northeastern Jewish students for a long time. It would be suicide for their school to be seen as siding with the Palestinian protestors.
