He lowered the assessed value of home valued at about $273,000 from $24,820 to $21,640. The 10% of market value translates to a home value of $216,400. The move saved him $388.48 in property tax.
His bail was set at $15,000 lol

Hard to believe that someone would tamper with records and risk their job over 300 bucks.
It’s more like everyone in state government does things like this, however this guy got tattled on or busted.

People do stupid things that don't make sense.
My Dad was a plant baw and one of his younger co workers took a couple of grinding wheels that the plant would have lended him if he requested it.
Well, they caught him leaving with the plants property and promptly was fired. Lost a _________/year job (plant baws fill in the blank) over .50 cents worth of grinding wheels.

Dumb arse
but really taxes that can fluctuate based on what someone labels as property value on owned property is fricking what’s wrong with this place.
You finally pay off your home
It’s still not yours lol it’s absolutely criminal

Imo it’s the complete opposite. Income taxes are good I think but any more taxes after you already paid your taxes is theft

I have a similar story with a different outcome.
My Pops was also a plant baw. A coworker of his was caught on camera loading a bunch of shite into the trunk of his car. Plant security saw it on camera, called police, and ended up searching his vehicle. They found the stuff and fired him on the spot.
The catch? He never left the plant premises. Therefore, he never "stole" anything. Just under two years later and the company had to reinstate him, pay his back pay, settle up on what vacation and other leave he had, reinstate his full retirement and health benefits, and let him retire in good standing.
The plant learned a valuable lesson with that one.

I don’t mind paying taxes. I don’t like tax dollars going to things I don’t support.

Without property taxes how would we have such great roads, sewerage, recreation, police and fire protection ? Sarcasm intentional.

Taxes are the price we pay for living in a civilized society. Freedom isn’t free.
I like driving on paved roads. I enjoy public parks. I appreciate that the food I buy at the grocery store is inspected and has standards. I’m glad we have a military to protect us from foreign threats. I’m glad we have elections. That we have a societal safety net for folks in the old age, that we have public education, the fire department and so many other things. While not specifically delineated, all
of these items are generally covered in the preamble to the Constitution as part of a “more perfect” Union.
So yes, I may not always personally like all the ways tax money is spent - but that’s democracy. It doesn’t mean getting just your way.

My next door neighbor has 4 bedrooms in their house, I have 3. He pays less in property tax each year than I do.

I think if taxes are a thing it should come out of your paycheck and not have another tax come off for anything else.
You pay income tax, then you pay tax at the grocery store then you pay tax on your house you own then you pay tax on the car you buy.
No thats bs, just tax off your first paycheck and nothing else. Then the govt gets the money to keep things going keep the military funded and at strength, should not be able to tax you a second time at the grocery store or at the car dealership or on a house that has gone up in value…
Money in my savings account or bank account that I have after taxes already paid taxes on should be free to purchase anything tax free

As opposed to living under a king or a dictatorship, hell yeah.
Like many of the other things i I listed, the mechanism aren’t perfect. But we’re sure better off having them than not.

What's the point when it's littered with cheating?

Who knows if this is all he did? This is just all he was caught on.
