Rockies hit a walk-off homerun, but the umpires overruled and called it fan interference.

One of McGwire's homers during his run to 70 was taken away like that.

Sucks that happened to that fan, but also props to the Rockies fans. Their team may be the worst in baseball and Coors was packed.

Looks like the Rockies won in extras anyhow.

Terrible job by all previous posters for not providing this fact.

I don't give a frick if they ended up winning. This thread is more about MLB having instant replay and they ruled this an out.

Only the 3rd time this has happened in the history of Coors Field.

M's player clearly didn't have a play on that ball. Like they said on the first video; it was a foot over his glove. That ball was gone.

in theory, could opposing fans buy up the front row seats just to cause chaos by purposefully interfering with every ball at the wall for the “home” team?

I’m surprised we haven’t seen weaponized fan interference yet

if that guy was a Mariners fan it’s a great game saving play

Watch the video again. For starters, it wasn't a foot over his glove at all. And more than that, his glove was still going up/back when it hits the fan. I'm not saying he 100% catches that ball if the fan isn't there, but that was certainly a catchable ball and it most likely (at worst) hits his glove.

This isn't as unfair of a ruling as this thread seems to think it is IMO.

yeah, but isn't fan interference only supposed to be on balls "in the field of play"?

the fan didn't lean out over the wall, the ball was up over it making it fair game between the fan and the player.

I mean, that is just unequivocally false:

that ball is clearly above the wall and not "in the field of play"
so the fan is not interfering with a ball in the field of play

I want a different angle. I thought he was leaning right across the wall rather than over on the angles I’ve seen.

Either way, tough call

I stand corrected on my interpretation of the rule. found the official wording of the rule.

I agree this looks like interference from this angle.

I disagree. The fan didn't plainly prevent the fielder from catching the ball. The ball was uncatchable to begin with.
