Carl, you are right on. This is what Jay did to fix Beloso as well.

Yeah, I noticed it maybe 2 weekends ago. It's subtle, but he's closed his stance a bit and it looks like his feet are a little closer together too. I'm sure it's a little awkward for him, even as subtle as it is. But he'll continue to get used to and get better the more ABs he gets.

But progress is not always linear. Especially hitting. He'll have ABs like he just did where he's seeing a guy who's not super high velocity and a fastball middle in looks like something he can turn on and deposit over the left field fence 425, and he'll pull off it and roll over it and ground out to the left side. Though he did hit that ball pretty hard. Next AB he may be more patient and focus more on letting the ball travel and hit a double into the right-center gap.

You can't just look at 1 AB. It has to be as a whole, either an entire game or an entire weekend to get a gauge on how he's progressing. And since BA has so much luck involved, I'd look at exit velos, K rate, OBP, etc...over the entire weekend to get a better idea on how he's progressing. And it's not quantifiable, but just looking at how hitters take pitches can tell you a lot. When Kling was at his worst, he was off balance, almost falling over on a lot of his takes.

Everyone wants Kling to turn it on. I want him to embarrass us all and go beast mode the rest of the year. I hope he realizes his potential now.

That ball just now top 7 is out almost every day. He may be coming on. Completely agree with Carl that closing his stance might be a big step in the right direction.

Kling has hit the ball pretty squarely this weekend. I say thats some progress.

As opposed to what?

He is a fast .200 hitter that hits singles from the left side. No more no less.

Paxton Kling is a right handed hitter who, when he hits the ball, hits the ball as hard as anyone on the team. 42.5% of his hits have been extra base hits. 38% of Dylan Crews' hits were extra base hits.

Calling Paxton Kling a "singles hitter from the left side" could not be more inaccurate

Exactly. Jay tried a million different outfield combinations. Pearson, Fry, Larson, Bingham, Neal, Brown. None of them outside of Bingham have been consistent. Frey didn't look great in the field and has been hurt. Larson is now a main stay and Kling is figuring it out.

Kling might have 3 or 4 hrs this weekend without this wind. He is seeing the ball well now and looks like it's coming around.
If he can start stoking we will be much better. I think it's going to happen.

Old men have been around long enough to know kids come round and improve.

Maineri had a kid (can’t remember name) who didn’t hit well but was a great CF. Blond-headed boy who made many great catches. He was almost an automatic out but he played because he could cover half the OF on his own.

Don’t you mean pop ups and strike outs.

Kline should be batting number 9 in the lineup if he has to bat.

Kling's last 10 games (8 SEC games):

.300/.447/.500

9 hits, 6 of them doubles. 8 walks to 9 Ks. 2 steals.

And then the next season, he improved and one of the best hitters on the team. Eventually made it to the bigs and was a solid backup OF. I'm assuming you're talking about Andrew Stevenson.

So thanks for pointing out that it's possible to improve as a hitter over time.
