Is this a great move for Arky?

calapari is 65, and struggled in tourney with some really good teams.

I think they should of hired a younger coach, recruiting is a grind,

It's good for both.

Calipari has done just fine with recruiting. The players went to Kentucky to play in his system not just because he was at Kentucky. He’ll get similar guys at Arkansas.

If you think they could have hired a better in-game coach, then that’s a different story. Personally, I think it’s possible both schools upgrade their coaches which seems crazy,

The amount of people that don't seem to understand or know Arkansas' history with basketball is insane.

They went to 3 Final 4s from 1990-1995 [4 Elite 8s in that time]. Won title in 1994 and lost in title game in 1995. They were winningest program in CBB from 1989-1995.

There's history there with fan base that wants to win at highest level of the sport again. Cal will absolutely do great job feeding off that.

I understand Kentucky's history, but a lot of these comments are clearly by people who don't understand Arkansas has shown they can be a top program. I think the hire benefits both parties because it will put fire back in Cal to prove something.

Awesome. Let’s hear it

Oh, their history of greatness is 6 years? And some people have the audacity to say LSU baseball isn’t a blue blood because we were not good until the late 80’s.

Is there support at Arkansas? Yes. Has it been proven the right coach can win there? Yes. But to act like y’all have some deep rooted long standing history is crazy.

Historically?

Arkansas is a good basketball program. Not Kentucky though.

Cal is average and mediocre as a coach nowadays. He will not recruit better at Arkansas than at Kentucky.

My point still stands. This makes zero sense for Arkansas and all the sense for Kentucky.

Cal is still better than hiring Jerome Tang or Chris Jans which is what they were looking at. He's basically a better version of Muss.

Are you really comparing LSU and Arkansas history in basketball? It's not comparable. Arkansas went to more Sweet 16s in that 7 year stretch from 89-95 than LSU has in last 42 years

ETA: My bad misread LSU baseball as LSU basketball.

No, I compared Arkansas basketball to LSU baseball. In baseball there are a decent number of posters on here claiming LSU isn’t a blue blood of college baseball because we didn’t start winning until the late 80’s.

What I’m saying is Arkansas doesn’t have the historical success or prolonged excellence to easily pull a sitting HC from UK just because they want him. They were able to get Cal because he wanted to leave.

My bad, misread your comment. I'd argue those people have no clue what they're talking about as well. Duke really wasn't much of a program until late 80s and early 90s also. Are they not considered a blue blood?

Some people say no because they didn’t win anything before K and haven’t really won anything after K.

Seems like Scott Drew to Kentucky would be a big domino to fall.

Would Baylor go after someone like Chris Beard with his baggage (and Baylor's)?

Why would he want the Baylor job? They've had a great coach in Drew and still a grand total of one good year
