Where are we placing Logan’s Run into this hodgepodge? Both film

The film came out a year before Star Wars, and it's based on a novel. Although it has some cheesy moments, it's also generally very good. I would say it does not belong in the same conversation.

Yeah, I just figured at some point we’re just naming 70s and 80s sci fi movies.

That might have been my fault with a soft derail.

Late summer of 1980, same summer as The Empire Strikes Back.

It was basically Roger Corman saying, "Hey, you know how The Magnificent Seven is basically Seven Samurai set in the old West?

WHAT IF WE DID IT IN SPACE?"

They even had Robert Vaughn basically playing the same character in both movies: Lee/Gelt, a fugitive gunman who is looking for asylum, the promise of food and shelter, and an escape from his failing ability.

Plus it had a spaceship with boobs:

I wonder if Peppard talked with Corman, saw the script and proclaimed - I love it when a plan comes together

Let's not forget The Man Who Saved The World. Otherwise known as:

Turkish Starwars

So terrible it's worth watching for the entertainment, at least for a while.

I never realized that The Black Hole was Disney's attempt to counter Star Wars until I read this article. To me, The Black Hole felt more like Star Trek than Star Wars.

It was a lousy movie, but I wonder if it helped open Disney's minds to producing more sci-fi content, leading to Tron a few years later.

Then Zack Snyder ripped off BBTS and used the same plot for Rebel Moon.

the Black Hole was a fav of mine growing up - at the end, when Maximilian opened his eyes, and they were humans inside - it haunted my dreams for a long time.

Laserblast (1978)

When this came to the Star Theater in Covington, a bunch of us watched this over several consecutive nights and treated it like Rocky Horror - lots of jokes and comments yelled at the screen, etc. The crowd got pretty big by the end of the run. Mr. Willie didn’t care because we paid money to watch and the theater would have been empty otherwise.

One thing I remember about the movie was that they’d replay an explosion multiple times from different angles. We’d count out loud “One! Two! Three!..” etc for each different angle.
