Thats a new one.
We used to use a snowed over airfield to radar test snowmobiles, but we also got permission.

Taking out the fact it was an actual airfield, this guy basically rear ended someone. How is it anyone but his own fault? Maybe don’t go 65 on a snowmobile and you won’t have an issue?

Helicopter on an airfield. Is a snowmobile an aircraft in need of an airfield? Which really belongs there?

so then how are they saying it was in the middle of a snowmobile trail?
if its a flat open area, then i take back what i said.
he should lose the case. doing stupid shite and not paying attention, to the point you run into something that is plain to see in front of you, there is no excuse to blame others for your own bad actions

The owner of the property lets snowmobiles access/traverse the property.

Helicopter color - dark
Nighttime-dark
Driver vision impaired- dark
Drive decision making and thought process impaired by alcohol and drugs-irresponsible
65 mph in the dark and drunk - plain damn stupid
What could possibly go wrong

So they parked in at an airfield (seldom used or not). That's all I needed to read.

Surely there's a lawyer in the Armed (heh, heh) Forces who continues to lawyer having lost an arm in combat? That's who should be sitting at the defense table if not arguing part of their side of things.

Was curious, the basic rule of thumb seems to be that anything over 30 mph is overdriving your headlight and not considered safe as you won’t be able to stop within the beam of your headlights

OK,
It's time to stop and think about snow. When there is snow on the ground, it's never dark as in dark of the moon. When there's enough snow on the ground to take out a snow mobile, evergreen trees are easily seen as masses, and the same would apply to a helicopter (unless it were Norwegian and camo'ed to hide in a forest.
