If he ran into a helicopter, he should go to his grave telling folks how lucky he was to not have died. Rotor strike is a death incident. 999,999,999,994 times out of a billion.

Is it possible it was snowing out? That would limit vis. If you have done the trail a ton of times the you know whats ahead.
2 beers is nothing plus he was outside and active meaning it goes through system faster.
Who made the MPH claim? Was he with a group and they verified it? Or did they do crash analysis to determine? Just curious.
Why is a military copter stopping on a private residence? What business would they have related to military?

Don’t know, but in the articles I’ve seen, his lawyers are not debating the speed he was traveling. Presumably the level of damage would imply a range. The guy even admitted that his headlight caught something and then he crashed

well i could see the property owner being liable, its not fair, but if you let someone on your property, you accept liability for what happens to them on your property. even from acts of their own stupidity

There ain't no way this guy hits a moving tail rotor and a) survives, b)even comes close to it. The lowest blade on a turning Blackhawk tail rotor is 6 ft 7 inches above the ground. This guy is riding a snowmobile. Unless he got some air or ran up a slope he's not coming anywhere near it. Think about how hunched down you are on a snowmobile. It's like a Ski-Doo.

no the blades were not turning, it was broken down and not running.
it was left at an old abandoned airport that locals used as a place to ride snow mobiles at.
drunk idiot ran into a stationary non running helicopter that was parked at an old unused abandoned airport

I actually thought this was going to be a situation where the Blackhawk was chasing the snowmobile for training purposes.
The shite used to happen all the time at Glamis in the early 2000s late '90s.
You would blow the top off of a dune and then see a Blackhawk on the other side, they would then follow you your job was to try to lose them.

There are signs along the trail for hazards, corners, etc. And if you have ridden the trail before obviously you know where the hazards are.
Until someone parks a black helicopter on said trail. In the dark.

That's how snowmobile trails work.
The government doesn't own the trail generally. Clubs get permission from landowners to traverse their property.
Interesting the landowner paid a settlement.
