Looks like Landry is going to tank the mid-Barataria diversion.

The administration is giving every signal that it wants to kill the diversion. The fishermen and the shortsighted morons in Plaquemines Parish are going to win. We are doomed. If I didn’t fear for what it will mean for New Orleans, I would cheer when these idiots are washed away by the Gulf.

For a second time, Plaquemines Parish has ordered the state to halt construction on its largest-ever coastal restoration project. And this time it might stick. That’s because the state Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority on Monday decided not to fight a legal challenge the parish filed against the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion. On Monday, the CPRA announced it would not go to the state Supreme Court to appeal a court decision upholding the stop-work order the parish issued in November.

Last week, newly appointed CPRA Chairman Gordy Dove cited the diversion’s recent legal troubles when announcing a comprehensive review of the diversion. They have not said how long the review might take.

Opponents also say the diversion’s flow – a maximum of 75,000 cubic feet per second of water delivered to Barataria Basin during high river periods – will disrupt the bay’s shrimp industry.

This is terrible. Will we ever elect a governor who isn't a complete POS??

Does this mean we don't have to bail them out when they become part of the gulf?

shrimp, oysters, trout, etc. who cares? these animals will simply move to the water with the salinity levels that they prefer. so learn to fish a new area. shrimpers always move around looking for the schools of shrimp. this should be nothing new for them.
the only excuse I can give would be for oyster fishermen. they have actual leases. thus they would have to find a new lease. and these guys already have (if i remember correctly) +/-$360M "set side" in the budget for this project for them. as a gift.
money grab...that is all.

Review being done by Bob Dove, brother of Gordy, I'm sure.

Will it help crawfish prices?

This is why it’s hard for me to call myself a Republican. There’s no common sense anywhere in politics on either side.
How difficult is it to find middle ground? We’re going to sacrifice the entire coastline of the state and put millions at risk so fat arse Billy nungesser and his friends don’t have to travel an extra couple miles to fish.

How much will the diversion reduce storm surge?
Posted on 2/29/24 at 8:45 am to Slippy
I am shocked Louisiana would do this! :eyeroll:
Posted on 2/29/24 at 8:51 am to Slippy
I miss when New Orleans swells could just blow up levees in surrounding parishes whenever they wanted.

Louisiana will always always always be ran by the greediest, corrupt, snake licking, dirt eating scumbag politicians ever.
Even a person with an IQ lower than room temperature can go on google earth and travel back in time and see that there is clearly an issue with coastal erosion and that something needs to be done ASAP. But nope, the greed of man in our corrupt government wins unfortunately.
Hope you guys get used to people catching speckled trout and redfish in baton rouge in the future because that is going to be the reality if these morons don't realize the grim future ahead of us...

This should have been implemented years ago. It's been through NRDA and on the books for over a decade. CPRA has a revolving door management with at least 4 temporary and longer term directors during that time who hadn't picked up where the other left off to push the project through.

Landry ran on the promise that he would end all these lawsuits/challenges.
It was a focal of his campaign.

Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority
Mother Nature gonna Mother Nature. It's been happening for millions of years.

I’m not sure it’s Jeff’s fault, but if it is frick him!
This needs to be done. And yes I fish the coast.
