Texas governor responds to LGBTQ human rights criticisms: ‘The UN can go pound sand’

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) over the weekend brushed off recent criticism of new state laws that target LGBTQ individuals, as well as claims that such measures violate federal and international human rights law.
Responding to a letter sent last month to the United Nations accusing the governor and other state officials of infringing on the rights of LGBTQ Texans through administrative and legislative actions, Abbott told the international nonprofit to stay out of it.
“The UN can go pound sand,” Abbott said Sunday on X, formerly Twitter.
Abbott similarly told the organization to “pound sand” in 2021, after U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said Texas will need to become less dependent on oil and gas to remain prosperous into 2050.
In January, four LGBTQ rights groups in a joint letter of allegation to more than a dozen independent experts, working groups and special rapporteurs at the U.N. said Texas leaders had intentionally targeted the LGBTQ community during the state’s last legislative session.
quote:
The groups’ appeal to the U.N. focuses on seven bills Abbott signed into law in 2023, including measures that ban gender-affirming health care for minors and heavily restrict transgender athletes’ participation in school sports.
“Taken individually, the seven pieces of legislation discussed in this submission will disrupt the lives of LGBTQIA+ people of various ages and backgrounds. Put together, the Bills are a systemic attack on the fundamental rights, dignities, and identities of LGBTQIA+ persons that opens the gates for discrimination by both public and private actors,” Equality Texas, GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign and the ACLU of Texas wrote in the letter.
quote:
The letter, which was also signed by The University of Texas at Austin School of Law’s Human Rights Clinic, asks the U.N. to call for the bills to be repealed and encourage both the state and federal governments to pass stronger nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ individuals.
It also criticizes the Biden administration’s response to anti-LGBTQ laws enacted in Texas and elsewhere, accusing the federal government of violating a decades-old U.N. treaty by failing to hold states accountable.

He should have told them to eat shite and die. We should kick the UN outta this country. The ideas and principles the UN push are not conducive with American ideas and principles.

That's how you handle the woke mob.

I know it's a stretch from a strongly worded letter to a military action but......
The day UN troops set foot in U.S. soil to do the bidding of rogue liberal elements is the day we are at war and all able bodies should respond accordingly.

These people don't understand that the harder they push the harder the pushback will be. Reality makes no sense to them

Why does what you do with your bathing suit parts with another consenting adult require special, legal protection?

This is most mind boggling to me.
We don't trust nor allow minors to drink, do legal drugs, join the military, vote, smoke, gamble, get a tattoo etc...
But we want to trust and allow them to make permanent changes to their reproductive organs and hormones?

Good for Gov. Abbott. This trans bullshite is out of control, and for fricks sake, leave kids alone. Let them be kids.
I’ve never received a good or even mediocre explanation from a leftist when I ask them what trans “rights” have to do with me, a gay man.
It’s usually just meaningless word salad and shock that I don’t buy any of it. As if I’m obligated to lock arms with a tranny and stick my neck out for their twisted cause.
Nah, I’m good. I’m worried about real issues, not their make believe bullshite.

Anything they say may be safely disregarded.

As usual on these threads, we have one limp-wristed serial downvoter. He/she/it can pound sand too.

Here's the deal.
He's right. And the UN has NO BUSINESS being involved.
However, they will be...
US military recruiting is in the toilet (I wonder why?). Tens of thousands of military aged foreign nationals are illegally entering the US unabated and even invited by the federal government. These invaders will be offered citizenship in exchange for military service. These invaders owe no allegiance to America or Americans, and will be trained and then equipped with milspec gear and armaments. The fed will overreach in TX and ignite an actual civil war possibly between federal military and national guard or TX militias. The fed will use this as an opportunity to declare martial law and soon after they will extend an invitation to UN Blue Helmets to come onto US soil and "bring peace".
The above scenario would've been absolutely unthinkable even 10 years ago. Now, it appears possible if not likely.
Buckle up.

The UN is useless.
They have perpetuated the Israeli - Gazan conflict.
It's time to shut them down.

I would have said that the UN could suck my arse but pounding sand is also a decent response.

They always hide behind these ridiculous Orwellian labels like "Human rights".
Cutting healthy body parts off children disqualifies you from claiming "human rights".

Some of those member nations sitting on the UN Human Rights Council throw gays off buildings for being gay.
Let me rephrase that: the UN is so unserious about the issue that they put representatives from some of the worst violators on the council to make demands of others.
I'll pass on taking any advice from them.
