higher velo has always equaled lower batting averages. throw in that jumping so much, advanced scouting to allow things like the shift to take away whole sides of the field, advanced pitch design, advancements in calling pitches based on advanced scouting.....not to mention fielders on average are faster than every before and have more range and you have the perfect storm for lower BA.
now the tech and training in hitting is finally catching up, but they had almost 2 decades of being completely stagnant to make up for
