A little under the going rate for a franchise QB.

Good for him. I'm sure the Bucs will structure it to where they can get out of it after a couple years, if he doesn't perform.

Daniel Jones got a similar bag last year, so it's not unreasonable especially with future cap inflation.

I like Baker, I'm not paying that money for him

I'm interested when the league takes a stand and stops paying borderline top 10 guys huge contracts.

Mahomes is turning out to be a bargain for the Chiefs.

Good for him. He’s a top 15 QB in the NFL. He has earned it.

I'm actually really happy for him. His NFL career could have gone the Johnny Manziel route if he didn't mature, but he did.

That's actually a little bit of a discount.

At what point do teams just start saying frick It, we are drafting a QB every draft and only playing rookie deal QB’s?

When Daniel jones and Derek Carr get 40M seems like a steal.

Lol we'll see what the structure is like, but I highly doubt 40 mil is going to handcuff the Bucs here. And the cap just keeps going brrrrr

Supply and demand. Of all the people on the planet, there aren't 32 that are capable of being a decent NFL starting QB

Keep in mind Tampa had a $35m cap hit in 2023 for Brady. Adding up Bakers base plus incentives pushes it out past $42m when adding in Brady hit. There is no Brady cap hit in 24 so in a manner of speaking if Baker gets $40m it’s a wash year over year.

For Baker he took a huge discount in 23 to prove himself. If one assumes he was worth $40m in 23, Tampa got a great deal. TB made a lot of extra money having that home playoff game.

If the Bucs give Baker Mayfield $40 million per season. They have taken over 1st place as the dumbest f*king owners in the NFL.

Meanwhile Brock Purdy is paid less than QBs still in college. And the 49ers don’t have to do a damn thing for the next 2 years either. Even in the 3rd year they can finally tag him and pay him market values.

Biggest value in sports is a good QB on a rookie deal. Every team should be drafting QBs just in case they find someone that skips thru the cracks
