Niumatalolo, 58, replaces Brent Brennan, who left for Arizona on Thursday, and brings extensive experience to the Spartans but will vary his offense and is not expected to run the triple option, sources told ESPN.

Disappointing...dude is a Paul Johnson disciple who made his career with the triple option. And now he wants to shelve it to try and recruit against everyone else. I wish him the best, but this will flop.

Hiring an option coach to run the option at San Jose State would have been a bad move on its own.

Hiring an option coach to not run the option seems even worse somehow.

this is the guy who held non-contact practices during August 2020 training camp for his his college football team (made up of 18-22 y/o future US Navy officers) bc he was afraid they would all get Covid.

ofc the decision to not go live at all leading up to the season opener proved disastrous and BYU blew out Navy, 55-3 lmao

It’s San Jose St. it’s a good hire if you ask me. It gives name recognition to a place that is named San Jose St. no one will notice if he wins or loses.

That decision was not Niumatalolo's. That was the commandant and SecNav's call. Niumatalolo took the fall for it. There's a lot of b.s. that took place during the 2020 season.

Harbaugh was hemmed in by the wicked witch who put pressure on the UM Board and Manuel

Someone clearly doesn't remember the 2020 Iron Bowl with Steve Sarkisian as acting head coach

That was a stat that was talked about during a broadcast that year that they had no players test positive that whole season. I think you have to call bullshite on that no matter what

You can’t test positive if you don’t test.

Ken's OC hire is Craig Stutzmann, Utah Tech OC.

This keeps looking worse...

Utah Tech averaged 28.4ppg, 425ypg, 310 passing ypg, and the team finished 2-8. QBs combined for 20 passing TDs and 15 INTs...

The Spartan defense better be ready to play.

You think you’re qualified to make decisions when it comes to hiring/firing coaches? You can’t even get there, their, and they’re correct

It looks like they went the dreaded “he won’t leave” route. But he had some success and he’s apparently open-minded to new things, so it may work out.

You do know the SEC handled all the testing for the teams each week right? Schools did rapid tests daily but the ones that determined if players/coaches could participate on Saturday were handled by the SEC.

Don't blame Alabama because they actually took the season seriously. The players didn't go out partying. They kept to themselves that year. When players could go home (bye week, Thanksgiving, etc.) every player had to participate with their family and the team medical staff on a Zoom to go over what the team's rules and regulations for Covid were (They're bringing home test kits, masks, hand sanitizer, etc for you to use. Don't invite every family member to the house until after the season is over, etc.) They knew they had a chance at a special season and they didn't want to blow it.

Navy firing coach Ken was not a popular move. He had to abide by the protocols put in place by the Chain of Command. You can’t have the football team doing full contact practice when the Plebes during Plebe Summer aren’t allowed to do any training that involves body to body contact such as boxing, wrestling, martial arts, rescue carry’s.

If you average almost 30 points a game and go 2-8, the problem isn’t the offense

Probably giving up 50 with all the interceptions thrown, which is most certainly an offensive problem.

He got fired because he was 2-5 in his last 7 vs Army and 2-5 in his last 7 vs Air Force.
