What is text etiquette?

Is it Mon-Fri 9-5... or it's cool to shoot a potential business associate a text at Midnight for them to read at 8am?

Apparently Gen Z gets triggered by the use of punctuation and proper spelling. So, just string one long run on sentence with a lot of abbreviations, acronyms and initialisms.

I don’t think it is acceptable to text business after bout 7 PM. Most people would rather take a break from work after they have dinner. I am pretty damn close to a boomer myself. I would feel free to e-mail something you want read tomorrow anytime. However, I consider text messages slightly more urgent than e-mail. The most urgent would be a phone call in my opinion.

I’m thinking no.
Text usually entails somewhat timely response in my opinion.
For example an email sent after hours saying “do this” can reasonably be expect to imply tomorrow (absent words like ASAP or Now of course). But a text “do this” would be perceived as meaning now or soon.

Might depend on your line of work, I personally don’t care, but I’d say if you’re gonna send it to them at midnight you’re better off sending it at 8 am.

My old boss who was younger than me would text me at all hours because he didn't sleep. I would oblige him with a reply when I woke up at 4 or 5AM while he was sleeping. The text stopped coming at all hours of the night/morning.

As a general rule if it’s someone you work with everyday and texting like that is normal, go ahead and text.
When I get work related emails or texts from people outside the office between like 11 pm and 4 am, I tend to think they’re not quite right at the time. They’re either angry, freaking out, or drunk.
If it’s a true emergency, all etiquette is out the window.

with this key detail being specified, I'd say no.
but perhaps you should post the text you wanted to send here so we have better insight into what you wanted to say at midnight to your potential business partner

It’s not smart or cool to assume that familiarity with potential business associates.
You don’t know whether people you’re texting have their notifications silenced, and did you consider that some people also get text notifications on smart watches?

Most sms apps let you schedule a text. So if it's late and you remembered something you need to text, but don't want to risk forgetting it, then write the text out and tell the app not to send until the morning. Best of both worlds.
