We have a Yukon and it’s been great. Best car we’ve ever owned.

Exactly what we’re leaning to

LX600 is way too expensive esp with u proven power plant
Sequoias 3rd row issues plus same unproven power plant
Expedition…..just not jiving
Waggoner is straight garbage dependable wise

We have a 2019 Expedition and love it. It’s a tank/bus. A little less cargo space than the suburban, but the expedition had a lot more features and things we needed for our family in this season.

Although if I remember correctly, the new suburbans match some of these features that the last generation fell short on. (LATCH system in third row, adjustable legroom in middle row, better mileage, etc)

Sequoia

Sequoia should not be in this conversation. It’s not in the same XL SUV class. It’s big, but not as big as the Suburbans/Yukons/Expeditions/Navigator/Escalade/Wagoneer

I'd drive a 1999 Dodge Caravan before I spent 80-90k on a Ford or Chevy

Couple of points:

1. Cash incentives are ridiculous (in a good way) right now on Jeep SUVs. Stellantis overshot badly on catching up after COVID, now they are slapping money on the hood to move them - 500 days inventory last time I looked. No, their reliability is not great, but from what I know, it's not catastrophic (powertrain or GM's horrific buybacks on fullsize SUVs over buffeting issues a few years ago), it's more niggling stuff that will get fixed. Buy a MoPar FACTORY warranty from one of the online dealers for <$1k, and you're still ahead. Resale will be mediocre, but if you drive it into the ground with 200k miles, do you care?

2. The Ecoboost issues were cam phasers for the most part on about 2 model years. Statistically, that problem is dead, and the Ecoboost is a great engine in terms of performance and MPG.

3. GM products tend to either have no issues at all, or they have 1 or more catastrophic problems - engine failures (lifters), transmission failures (same 10 speed that's in the Ford, but Ford has fewer problems), the buffeting issues that plagued the prior gen Tahoe/Suburban/Denali/Escalade (there was even a large FB group dedicated to it and the buybacks). As with Jeep and Ford, but a FACTORY extended warranty online for <$1k and don't worry about it. Try that with a foreign make, and you'll find most of them price fix the factory warranties to let the dealers get rich.

4. The new Sequoia is puzzlingly mediocre, like the Tundra. Powertrain is unimpressive in real world situations, interior packaging is shaky, infotainment is nothing special, and they may have managed to screw up reliability too. No one expected such a poor effort from Toyota, but there it is.

Defender 130 would be my pick if I were in the market for a kid hauler.

Only about 10% more in price but you get that LR luxury and reliability.

I love LR/RR and have had 5 of them. Capability and luxury (mainly in the RR) is noteworthy but you have to be high or a car newbie to cite their reliability. While it is better under Tata it is still near the bottom of the heap. Some people get mislead because all cars over time have gotten far more reliable (though the repairs have generally gotten far more expensive due to complexity). We have sold our newer Land Rover SUVs just before the end of the warranty because the retained value tanks shortly after. LRs are fine for people that trade vehicles every 4 years or 50k miles.

Typical twitter world issue. A few people scream and it's an epidemic.

"AutoGuide.com‘s editors have put plenty of miles in numerous examples of these big GM trucks, from the Cadillac Escalade to the Chevy Tahoe, and have never experienced anything like what Watkins described."

Besides the fact that was the previous truck which has nothing to do with the OP's question concerning buying a new one. In case you didn't notice, it's a new design since the supposed epidemic in 2017...

Navigator was less than Escalade? I’ve been looking at both and they seem pretty comparable

This was several years back. It was an ‘08. It had about 12,000 miles on it and got it for 34. It was coming off a corporate lease and still had the plastic covers on on the 3rd row carpet. Bought it from Texas Auto Direct.

They may be comparably priced now though.

Expedition for the win. I’m on my third because they’re great family vehicles and built like a tank.

Just traded in a 2014 King Ranch EL. Loved the car! Was a tank and actually turned on a dime. Had it for 6 years with zero issues other than a leaking sunroof which led to trading it in along with no longer needing a SUV that big due to older, driving kids. Would 100% buy again if we ever needed something that big.
