I'm looking forward to seeing what Nuss can do, but "generational arm strength" and comparisons to Rodgers and Marino...let's pump the breaks.

I hope he plays great in the bowl and leads us to the natty next season, but some people may be setting their expectations a little high. There's a reason we hit the portal last year.

A reasonable yet still lofty expectation would be to think Nuss has the potential to develop into a Mettenberger type QB for us. If he turns into Aaron fricking Rodgers, great.

Clear away all the smoke, fog, mirrors and excuses and ask yourself truly, why is LSU so hellbent on finding a dual-threat QB in this year’s portal when Nuss still has two years remaining.

Nuss will do okay but let’s be realistic here

We’ve seen the best performance ever in tiger history so there’s going to be considerable drop off. Fans need to be considerate of that.

I'm optimistic about Nuss, but realistically I expect a performance better than Burrow and JD's year 1 campaigns and a good bit lower than their 2nd years at LSU. Anyone that thinks he'll be anywhere near where Burrow or JD were their 2nd seasons is going to be disappointed.

Biggest questions are:

(1) Can Nussmeier learn to play smart within his high confidence level. You WANT your QB to have big time confidence and feel he can make every play...any time. But the greats are controlled enough to know they can't make every throw any time and know how to control their swagger to their advantage.

(2) Can Denbrock tailor an offense to Nussmeier. For multiple years now (even predating LSU) Denbrock has had a QB who always could save a play with his feet. He also could call plays knowing the defense had to account for a runner at QB. Nussmeier is at his best when he's playing in rhythm. Will we see more quick throws to speed up the tempo and reduce the need for Nussmeier to want to ad-lib...which can sometimes get him in trouble?

Bigger than these questions, will Nuss put in the time in the film and VR room to become proficient with pre-snap reads? QBs that can adjust to defense at the LOS pre-snap at the college level are next level. Burrow did it in 2019. Daniel started becoming good at it after the FSU game this year.

If Nuss can get the pre-snap game down he will be very successful at the college level. To get it down however takes a lot of preparation. Just the normal NCAA 20 hours per week of practice is not enough. Nuss needs to spend a lot of time in the film room scouting defenses out from week to week to be elite.

If I had to throw a ball park guess on passing TDs for Nuss I would say somewhere around 30 with 8-10 INTs. That would put him around Jamarcus Russell's best season and 3rd all time.

Burrow does not have elite arm strength. Good arm strength but not elite. Burrow is accurate tho. JD has elite legs.

What Burrow has and JD learned is the ability to read defenses. If you know what a defense is going to do you are at least know where to put the ball where they won't be. Burrow was elite at knowing and JD started to learn after the FSU game, that is reading and reacting to defenses pre-snap.

Nuss needs to develop this skill. It however takes a lot of work and preparation.

With a dad that's a formal QB and current NFL QB coach I don't think we have to worry about that. The question is if the game slows down enough that he can make the reads and quick decisions. Not every QB has that ability, no matter how physically talented they may be or how hard they prepare.

Time for Nuss to step up is now and I think we're all going to be pleasantly surprised

Question is who will be his favorite target, I bet we use the tight ends more in next years passing game.

I was always down with JD over Nuss but the world has again moved on.

So now I'm moving my gear onto the Nuss Bus and hoping for great things. I wish him the very best.

What GumboPot is talking about doesn't come from daddy or coach. It is about an individual deciding he wants to do whatever it takes to be as good as he can be. It requires putting in the work beyond what the coaches can require.

I think you’re woefully underestimating his TD numbers. I suspect he’ll be in the 45 range w/ 7-8 INT range.

That's really the deal. Nuss obviously has the arm and the pedigree, but is he willing to follow in JD's footsteps and open the facility each morning, maximize the VR and training platforms, and throw with his receivers (Lacy and Hilton at this point I guess) on their free time? If so, I feel he has a chance to be really good, I'll be very interested to see him perform against Wisconsin.

“Like I told them earlier, one of the first conversations me and Coach Sloan had, he told me that he believed that you know he was the best coach in the country to coach me,” Nussmeier said, per On3. “And I think that could be true because we’re very similar. I get very emotional at times, and he’s the same way. So he’s quick to get on to me, but I love it. I’m used to it, and that’s the way I want it to be. I don’t want to be coached to be average. I want to be coached to be the best I can be. So, I have a lot of love for coach Sloan and the way that he coaches me. So it’s been fun.”

He'll need to borrow some legs permanently.

He didn't look bad when he was in the clutches of a Ga DL and still completed the throw.

Outstanding. I had not seen that quote previously. That certainly sounds like he has his head on straight.
