General Motors (GM) disclosed plans to lay off 1,300 workers from two Michigan plants as it ends production of the iconic Chevrolet Camaro and electric Chevrolet Bolt. GM will lay off 945 workers from the Orion Subsystem facility in Lake Orion, Mich., according to a new Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter. The company is ending production of the Chevrolet Bolt model built at the plant on Dec. 18.

They’ve avoided investing in the Camaro to design cars like the Bolt.

Kind of a tragedy IMO. The Camaro SS is a fantastic vehicle with an excellent chassis. It’s so far beyond what a muscle car typically is. It actually handles.

I guess these means the CT4-V Blackwing is also gone. That was the sports sedan that outperformed the modern BMW’s. They did all these great things then followed it all up with electric models that people aren’t yet ready to buy.

Not saying their electric vehicles are bad. They are actually quite good. The problem is that they’ve misread the market and bought into the media hype around electric cars, then hoped that the anti-Musk propaganda would lead more EV buyers into buying from legacy automakers. That hasn’t really happened.

A most perfect representation of the idiocy and buffoonery of the Biden administration: these fools gave this economy a name that would stick, and one that leaves no question as to who owns it……”Bidenomics”. It doesn’t get any dumber than that, end of story.

There is simply no clever scheming by Biden and the left going on, some plan or plot that will shock the world when it falls perfectly into place. It is precisely what it most obviously looks like……complete incompetence driven by arrogance and ignorance. There is nothing clever about these people. Much the opposite.

A lot of the problem IMHO is that customers don’t WANT a full EV right now and are hesitant to buy a hybrid.

I had to buy a new car in the past year and I actually went below the level of trim I would have normally gone for because I wanted ICE only, no hybrid no EV.

In my specific case, my travel patterns are such that I really can’t do EVs, as I have to make custody exchanges and drive to the other end of the state to take care of relatives.

Time is already a premium so I don’t have time to dick around with trying to find a charging station in speed trap country like Sicily Island and Wisner.

I own one of those, ‘22 model with about 10k miles.

But I’m about to trade it in for something that’s not a race car. I can’t drive it slow and it’s going to get me in trouble. Plus my reflexes aren’t what they used to be.

But a badass ride…….

Bidenomics is nothing new…. Old school command economy like the Soviet 5 year plans or the Indian economy post-WWII.

Dictating what production should be doesn’t mean it will fricking happen or that what you think what will be needed is what will actually be needed.

Biden is a clown but this has nothing to do with him

They're slowing down their robotaxi program that accounts for the bulk of the layoffs

GM is a shite company that covered up an incident involving one of their robotaxis in October. It sucks for the workers but this has nothing to do with the overall health of the economy.

The lack of electrical grid infrastructure is what keeps a lot people from buying. People dont want to worry about having a car that they cant drive because there isnt enough power to charge it.

We already have power shortages in areas when temps are high or low. Who wants to depend on something that might leave them stranded.

Hybrids are the way to go. Best of both worlds.
