This article from the Baton Rouge Business Report (sorry, it may be behind a paywall) got me thinking of who could possibly win against SWB. Thus far, no other candidates have thrown their name in the race. Is the LAGOP working to establish a viable candidate? Is there even a chance a Republican or even a non-black candidate could win? Even if the chances are slim, seems a shame to let her go unchecked.

Who will run for mayor in 2024?

With voter turnout typically in the 20-30% range, a republican could definitely win if we ever showed up to the polls. Apparently it’s not as important as that Saturday teip to Costco for most.

Baton Rouge is lost. There is no getting it back.

It will remain a shithole like New Orleans for the same reasons.

Does BR have clean elections or no? You’d think BR residents would want better for themselves. That BRPD situation should’ve sealed her fate yet here we are

Disagree totally. There’s still time to right the ship.

SWB is a great example of how a shitty leader can make a shitty city. She really lucked out with her re-election. Her opponents were awful. There was zero interest in the race.

Can’t read the article but that writer is a douchebag. SWB will not win re-election. It will end up being a white female who wins.

I’d bet dollars to donuts Aaron Moak is going to run.

Doesn't BR have term limits? This is SWB's second term right?

I remember business leaders coming together to promote Kip over Bobby Simpson. Simpson was a good administrator, but had no plan to get EBR moving. He had no vision of the future. Kip did.

The same people got behind Broome. Big mistake. She is a poor administrator, a dyed in the wool progressive, and her vision of the future does not make sense.

I’m waiting to see what the old leadership group is going to do. They have to see how inept Broome is. It has to be hurting their businesses and developments. Will they pick another horse to run?

The clock is ticking.

MP candidate that runs on:

Hiring head cracking Chief of Police
Cutting bloated and top-heavy administration
Getting DPW off its arse to fix roads and drainage
Letting downtown become an open container entertainment district
Letting St. George be St. George

Would beat that idiot

There may be another African American Democrat challenging SWB. Decently high profile. I think would be an improvement. Seems to be more pragmatic than many of his colleagues.
