I take it every retailer is afraid to use "Christmas" in any of its advertising

Every ad, every sign etc says "holiday" or "year end" , even if they display along with it Christmas trees and wreaths and bells, and so on.
Even throw in verbiage like " Merry" and "jolly".
But absolutely it must be taboo to use the word "Christmas".

Disappointing.

I long for the times when this was one of the biggest culture wars.

We've got schools trying to trannify children, baw.

Why is it disappointing? Are you so ego-centric that you don’t realize or care that there are other religious denominations celebrating holidays this time of year? It’s smart business to include all holidays not just the one you celebrate!

“Xmas” was a hot debate at one point. “They’re taking the Christ out of Christmas!” Boy we’ve fallen far since then

you can search my entire post history and you'll never find an example of me feeling attacked or like a victim over any political bullshite. I don't subscribe to groupthink.

for someone to attack me they'd have to put my name on the ad, not just a generic group of folks that I happen to belong to. then again i'm not a progressive, I just enjoy pointing out that progressives and conservatives both employ the same dumb shite like cancel culture and victimization

Won't get into all the debate minutiae but I remember well that Sears had a Christmas 197x catalog that switched to the Sears Holiday Wish Book by 1980. Have no idea why back then. No one was complaining.

that 1978 book looks so much better.

I understand companies using Holidays instead of Christmas though just because it includes a broader group of people. Why would anyone wanna leave out Hanukah?
