Any of you do it? I have about 40 pounds to lose. Would like to try macro counting. Not sure where to get started and every macro calculator gives me different calculations.

Lots of people do. Use my fitness pal and set your own macros goals. Buy a scale

There is a few counting apps, which are apparently good

I have MyFitnessPal premium (worth the investment) to thank for losing 20kg while maintaining macros during cutting and maintenance phases

It has a massive library of food items and it will remember you recently added, which makes it fast and easy.

Based on a few factors, it will work out your total daily expenditure (of energy), and will set a daily goal of under this TDE. Depending on how much you want to lose or gain.

You can enter you excerise sessions manually or via fitness apps like Garmin and it will take the cal burned off your daily goal

The best advise is to stick to your daily no matter how much you burn in sessions

That's what works for me, and we're all different. There's a few out there to try

Good luck!

No. And food labels are allowed to be up to 20% off so you aren’t getting accuracy. Prioritize protein, lift heavy weights, do cardio 3 to 5 times a week, and get 8 hours of sleep. You will lose weight and build some muscle even if you have awful genetics. It’s not hard. It’s actually very easy once you get going.

How did you choose your activity level in mfp? I work at a desk majority of the day, but am exercising (HIIT, lifting, cardio) 3-4 times a week.

if you wanna pay for an app macrofactor is the best followed by avatar and carbon.

as far as where to start....sounds like you need guidance and macrofactor would be the best.

but you could easily, weigh yourself everyday, take the average across the week and adjust down 250 calories from starting point if you needed to.

the most accurate calculator i have found is the leangains calc

I did it for years. Found myself too reliant (sounds weird but probably addicted to it to be honest) on the app and have recently stopped tracking and tried just being more mindful.

I think tracking is a good place to start to help you understand the impact of what you eat on your daily caloric intake, but I would caution you on letting it become a crutch and/or getting too in the weeds/anal about hitting the number every single day. Don't forget to enjoy yourself every once in a while - just don't eat and drink like an a-hole every weekend.

Tracking is an amazing tool. I had no idea just how bad some foods were for me until they popped up on my app.

If you put all this thought into it you’re just gonna think about food too much and be hungry

Just eat once a day.

Buy a scale

Only use the scale at the gym

That way you have to go to the gym to weigh yourself

I set my macros goals myself and don't listen to whatever the app is trying to do. If you just track for two weeks and weigh yourself everyday then you'll get an idea of what your maintenance is. Then just adjust up or down from there. Set protein at 1g/lb of body weight. The carb:fat ratio isn't all that important

Get a Garmin watch and hit your step goals daily, you can’t help but lose weight.

10,000-12,000 steps daily definitely helps with maintaining/losing weight
