I love Brian Kelly’s answer to the evaluation of the defensive staff

I wish we had our new defensive staff in place right now but Kelly does things through his process. I can see Kelly giving his answer to the defensive players during their exit meetings last week.
Harold Perkins:
Why should I come back and play for LSU after we had the worst defense in school history? How can I trust that you will make the correct changes and making defensive staff changes?
Coach Kelly:
Here's what I can tell you. I was three games into a season at Notre Dame when I had to fire my DC, and he was in my wedding. That wasn't an easy decision, but I'm not afraid to make those decisions. I am going to do what's best for LSU's program and the pursuit of a National Championship. But I'm going to do it informed, I'm going to do it for what's best for the program. It's involving players, it's involving coaches, and involving all things to be more successful as a defense. It's not on one person. It is collectively.

If I’m Harold Perkins, why wouldn’t I want to be the only bright spot of a shite defense?
Only magnifies his ability for NFL scouts.
He’s not leaving and learning a new system his money year. Anyone who thinks so is ignorant. Dude doesn’t have it upstairs to do that.

You love everything Kelly does.
I will love Kelly when he produces more than 9-3 and a bad bowl.

You love how Brian Kelly is handling it SO much that you made up some fan fiction for how he is handling it?

I think he’s giving the coaches the respect of finding another job vs firing them like he did the special teams coach last year

All I hear is a lot of ifs

Kelly is headed to New York this weekend, where the (earned) celebration of Jayden Daniels will include repeated shots at the historically terrible LSU defense that Kelly and House are responsible for putting on the field.
Kelly, Denbrock, and Sloan obviously deserve (and will get) credit for Daniels' development. But just about every discussion of Daniels' historic season will include lament for the 2023 putrid defense. That includes most every interview that Kelly does this weekend.
It will sting. And should. We will see how Kelly reacts.

Good grief. Not bad for imagined though. However, I don’t think he says to HP the same thing he says to the press……ever. Although content and context is probably was likely similar.

He told people, they just need to read between the lines. He can’t fire the whole defensive staff right now. The portal is open and signing day is 2 weeks away. I am 100% convinced that almost all if not all of the staff will be fired or told to find another job. Remember he mentioned the Ole Miss game, that is when things changed IMO.

So his defense at Notre Dame that year was so unbelievably bad that he fired his DC in the middle of the season? It was worse than LSU 2023?
At least we know that Kelly gives his assistant coaches extremely wide latitude to do their own thing. It bit him in the arse this season for sure.
