Playoffs aren’t designed to declare the best team. Particularly in a single elimination tournament. Playoffs declare a champion. No more, no less.

How can you even say this with the history of the SEC championship?

I agree. I’d rather do away with conference championships, expand to 16 do something like

3-4 auto bids from Big 10
3-4 from SEC
1 group of 5
2 from big 12 and ACC

Rest at large

If say LSU and Alabama are both 9-0 next year when they play, it would almost be beneficial to lose a a close one rather than win and have to play an extra game for the SEC championship

Fine. It's better than anything we've had before.

That looks amazing. Imagine complaining about that….

Missouri, Penn State, Tulane, and Ole Miss have not earned a shot at the title this year. Absurd to have those 4 in. 4-6 total teams would have been preferable to keep the regular season’s importance intact

I wish we could have kept the BCS formula and the four premier BCS bowls and tie-ins, and then taken the top four left standing after bowl season
This was the way, and they absolutely blew it

Next year, the mich/OSU game, the bama/UGA game, and the Oregon/wash game won’t have 5% of the juice it had this year. Sucks but that is what clllege football will be going forward

LSU has basically lost every single meaningful game this year and will be a frog hair from making the playoffs with 12 teams.

Yep we lost our 3 biggest games but yet would be knocking on the door of a playoff spot.

This LSU team would be like a high seed in March madness going on a run.

My counterpoint to this is, sure the top 5 matchups will mean less in regular season. But they still will mean something. This game likely would be for a bye, that’s not nothing.

And alternatively, a game between 10 and 14 in November means a lot more than it currently does. It’s no longer just the top 6-8 that matter, there is now huge stakes for all top 10-20 teams.

So I think it all kind of washes out honestly. And that’s just regular season. The playoff will be undoubtedly a lot more fun.

Agreed.

People complaining about have more big games is baffling.

They beat Missouri. They lost on the road on a last second FG to Ole Miss and at Bama when their Heisman QB was knocked out of the game. And then a week one loss to a top 4 team.

This is a fun and frisky team, the type we should want to see playing playoff games in CFB.

These teams would need to win 4 playoff games. If they can win 4 playoff games, how could you say they didn’t deserve a chance?

We’re talking about 12 teams out of 128 making the playoffs. It isn’t like 6-6 teams are getting in.

Five big ten teams and five SEC teams. The two super conferences.

with the bye week the conference championship still matters.

Honestly I think they should get rid of conference championship and base it on who wins the conference during the regular season.

top 4 conference champs should get the bye week.

You seem pretty dedicated to shite posting, but I can almost guarantee that the qualifications for the 12 team playoff will change in the offseason. I seriously doubt it’s going to be the top 6 conference champions when 2 of the power 5 conferences have been greatly weakened. It will most likely be the 4 highest ranked conference champions and then 8 at large.

With 4 team playoffs only about 10 teams fan bases have a meaningful regular season after 6-7 games. With 12 in the playoffs it's probably 25 fanbases or more that have something meaningful to root for after week 8 or 9.

In the past with the BCS and prior with just the media picking a favorite at the end of the year, only about 5 fan bases out of 100 had anything meaningful. Oh, wow, we won the Rose Bowl/Sugar Bowl now we're #4!

Yep, and that's worthless, really. The clods who had poll votes never saw the teams and they'd just vote their biases...Notre Dame, Alabama, USC, etc.

Penn State getting pub every year is as annoying as ND.

Rinse and repeat with that team. Sorry PSU fans
