How is it terrible?

Like I can understand someone saying it’s overrated or isn’t a masterpiece like some say but calling it terrible is straight up wrong, objectively.

they're trying to push it to the limit.

It's OK to enjoy it, even if you think it's not great. I bet F. Murray Abraham doesn't have Scarface on his resume. Doubt he got many calls after making it. I imagine he got a lot of work after Amadeus, which came out the next year. Abraham is good in period pieces, but he's great as an arsehole, in any time period. He was perfect as the teacher in Finding Forrester.

Carlito's Way is more of the same, except you get Sean Penn's great performance as the last person on earth anyone would want to be friends with.

Has Pacino ever had a decent accent?

Most overrated actor in Hollywood.

I think the movie has aged well because it’s campy and since about 2000, it’s developed a cult following.

But I have to tell you… back in the day it was perceived as a movie that was not that good. Violent, but shallow and soulless. That was the general perception.

Just watched it on Netflix but, yes, it was a great movie. Money/drugs really ruined lots of people and Tony‘s entire family and friends’ network.

Watch Cocaine Cowboys for how crazy Miami was in the 80s...it's actually more entertaining.

In Glengarry Glen Ross Ricky Roma slips into the Tony Montana dialect every now and then.

yeah but for its time, it was very shocking. First one to use the F word so much. I think it was used like 228 times. The final gun battle was what everyone talked about, how he was so hyped on coke he wouldn't go down after numerous hits.

The music perfectly sets up the mood throughout the movie.

I worked with a guy in the mid-1990’s who came to the U.S. from Lebanon. He said he learned a lot of English by watching and re-watching a VHS tape of Scarface. He could recite the dialog for different scenes and spiced up an otherwise boring corporate job. Oddly, his favorite quote was “Marta, hello.”

You get to go to war w/them in the Scarface video game on Xbox/PS2/Wii/PC.

For those who haven't played it, it's basically GTA w/a Scarface coat of paint.

It picks up right where the movie stops retconning the ending to have Tony survive the mansion attack and you have to rebuild his shattered drug empire.
