Disclaimer - I got no sauces and looking at this from a 40,000 ft view.

TL;DR - House gets year 3 of his contract

Coming into 2023, the future was bright for House and his defense. He had demonstrated that he could adjust mid game in his first season and his acquisitions thru the portal appeared to have potential.

Then disaster strikes weeks before the season and you lose a pivotal position coach. Your HC opts to put a S/T coordinator as DL coach. Then lightning strikes again and you lose your stronger CB to injury in fall camp. Your HC refuses to let you play a highly touted transfer (DH) and so you have to rely on a smaller transfer (Duce) who ultimately decides to ride the pine after a few weeks and preserve his redshirt (hardship transfer inbound - speculative). Lightning strikes again and you lose your secondary leader due to a rare brain tumor. Weeks later, lightning strikes again and your last stud CB goes down due to injury. Your reserves comprise of booger eating freshmen (speculation on the booger eating part) and a boss who subscribes to a seniority over talent mindset.

As we approach the end of the season, LSU has a weak ish secondary/DL class abd a staff change threatens this. I think House gets to change out a few position coaches and hopefully recognizes they need an absolute stud recruiter. Best case scenario is that we can jump sooner than later on position coaches during the turnover season, and they bring som studs with em.

CBK is just as much to blame for this as House (opinion) and has coach spoken that he is pleased with the progress relative to resources available. Additionally, 9-3 isn’t a big enough step back to risk a thin recruiting cycle.

The things you said happened to House to make his job harder, did indeed happen.

However, the defense hasn't just looked young, there has been poor game planning (which has been admitted in the post-mortem PCs), the players who played last year have regressed with their fundamentals, and there has been a complete absence of mid-game adjustments.

I was a House defender until Alabama. Unbelievably poor game plan.

When we didn't put a spy on Monroe, I lost all faith in his ability to coach appropriately. I don't care what the game plan was, react to what is happening on the field and at least try to stop the QB from running all over you.

All of these things are bad, no doubt; but that should not translate to a 100+ defensive ranking for LSU. Ever.

The schemes have been bad; the tackling has been awful; and the development/improvement? Well there’s been none that I can see.

House can’t figure out how to use the personnel we have. Perkins disappeared and Weeks has been MIA. And let’s say it again: there’s been no improvement.

House needs to go.

There are a lot of examples of this not being the case.

But by all means, "subtly" blame BK for more of House's failings.

House is not 100% responsible, but he and the defensive staff are 90% responsible. Perkins has regressed, Wingo regressed, and Maason Smith has regressed. Why is that? Perkins and Wingo were All-Americans last year. You don’t get worse overnight. That’s coaching. Players constantly out of position and missing tackles is coaching. Having more talented players on the bench, like Weeks, because they supposedly don’t know the scheme is coaching. Denver Harris doesn’t know zone defense, but he’s a lockdown man-to-man corner. Adapt the scheme to your players. DBs constantly having their backs turned when the ball in the air is coaching. LSU does not have a severe lack of talent on the defensive side. At worst, they should be statistically average based on talent.

The ENTIRE defensive staff needs to go. They all suck.

Seniority over talent mindset statement is false regarding Kelly.

I hate that we weren't prepared against Alabama. Losing to Ole Miss and Florida St...meh

With the run game we have now, we'd beat Florida St if played again. Almost feels like the Ole Miss game was when we realized there was no stopping this offense.

Maybe we get Pete in here sooner? Maybe things look better?

The DBs look young and inexperienced aside of Major...they all are young and inexperienced aside of Major (15 playing a new position does factor in) idk man...it's just tough. They don't look like the worst position group on defense... I too think that House was not given a fair shot to improve on Year 1 with the hand that was dealt. But I didn't think it would be this bad. You clean House, you lose all continuity with incoming class and loaded 25/26 Louisiana class. Slippery slope with any decision regarding the defense right now.

If the defense had some bad moments then I could see this argument. However, the defense wasn't just bad, it was historically bad and bad when you compare it to just about every other FBS team. You can't argue this when teams like Vanderbilt have an easier time stopping offenses. Even with everything that's happened, you can't tell me that all these other FBS teams that can hold Ole Miss under 55 points have better players than us. He came into the season with the defense completely unprepared and that's unacceptable.

I want the entire defensive staff gone but I also have a feeling that BK is not going to make any changes and will cite continuity and injuries.

I am pretty confident that House is gone…

But, we aren’t in the coaches meetings. If House has been calling all the correct defensive plays and our players just can’t execute, then it may be more of a personnel issue rather than a coaching issue.

Basically if BK thinks the X’s and O’s are there, but we don’t have the Jimmy and Joes, then House may get another year.

Injuries happen for every team. A drop off can be expected, but to have the worst defense in college football, it’s inexcusable.

At the beginning of the season, he had some of those players that can’t play now. And gave up a ton of yards to Grambling in the first half, ran through the first string defense like a hot knife through butter.

Again, inexcusable.

I agree. House isn’t going anywhere. Crazy string of injuries and bad circumstances affected the defense this year. I think a couple of position coaches are out and, hopefully, some major pickups in recruiting pan out for next year.

If Kelly does that he is putting his own job at risk.

Our defense wasn’t prepared to account for Milroe scrambling coming off a bye week. There are no excuses

House could be a gold mine of a DC and you would never know it due to the horrible fundamentals at all levels, injuries, underachievers, inexperience, substandard talent. One big train wreck.

OTOH, what he wants to do on defense in the DT QB era may be so complex, it is not a good fit for what I believe has to become a recruit for the NFL tack for us to keep pace in the NIL world. (What I mean is take kids from LA and fast-track 'em to the NFL such that the NFL becomes our NIL).

But I agree with the OP this is all on CBK and all on CBK to correct.

I tend to do the same rather than get caught in all the minutia.

I tend to agree that BK is partly to blame here. The announcers kind of supported your position Sat night when they were talking about the numbers and experience are so slim that House cant even make adjustments. I can see BK making that “its on me” statement. But in the long run House and his subordinates are directly responsible for the lack of quality recruiting.

None of that has anything to do with the fact that he always seems to ZERO Gameplan and shows ZERO Ability to make any kind of adjustments.
