If Nuss is the man next season, how far of a drop off do we see?

I go back and forth on this guy! I love his passion for LSU and he has a cannon of an arm, but some of his throws are absolute disasters!

It's like he thinks he's still in high school and can make every pass, but SEC football is another level and the windows are much smaller. I also question his decision making/patience because it's like he feels like he has to hit a home run on every throw and that's just not happening in the SEC. Sometimes you just have to take what the defense is giving you.

I would love for him to be the guy, but I just haven't seen enough to convince me he's the right guy for us next year.

Pretty hilarious how people have devalued Nuss from the offseason to now with him barely playing.

He's had 33 attempts this year. You think you've accurately assessed his ceiling from those passes?

What you aren't thinking about is how incredible of a job Joe Sloan and Mike Denbrock did with Jayden Daniels. Jayden flat out sucked at times last year, and now he is, in my opinion, the best Quarterback in the country. The same people that got Jayden there are going to be coaching up Nussmeier and his elite passing talent. I am not worried at all about the offense in 2024 because I know the coaches on that side of the ball are some of the absolute best in college football.

We've got a guy now that has orchestrated the second-best offense (and not far from the best) in the history of the program and still have managed to lose 3 of 9 games. Unless there is an influx of talent on the defensive of the ball and an overhaul of the defensive staff, I wouldn't stress too much about Nuss or the QB position in general because the team won't be contending for anything meaningful.

I'm a JD fan who wasn't sold on him until late last year. I bet you weren't sold on him either. I think Nuss will be fine. Given that he's a coach's son and will be coached up by Kelly/Denbrock and Sloan. I have a feeling LSU is going to be a place where QBs will be successful for the foreseeable future.

Well, sometimes he came in and needed to score quickly to overcome a deficit with little time left in the game. Other times he is trying to impress in limited time. Perhaps he’ll have more patience if he is the full time starter.

Impossible to say. But for now, you have to believe it’s possible it’s very little.

He has a ton of talent but needs experience, reps w the 1s, full attention of the coaching staff, and everything else a qb1 gets.

My point, we won’t know until next year. Coaches may know sooner (like if a transfer is brought in) but we won’t. No reason to really be pessimistic until we have a good reason to be.

Nuss has it all but just needs to learn how to translate it to the field. We don’t fall anywhere as long as the defense improves. If the defense is average next year and Nuss finds a way to translate it to the game instead of practice, we only lose two games next year.

I would cut the guy a break. Substituting in mid drive is tough. Not being in sync with the WR’s and TE because you don’t have the meaningful snaps together matters. Idk if he Carries a team on his back like jayden, but he is definately good enough to win a lot of games with a competent running game and decent defense.

Honest question: have we ever seen a “settled” Nuss? A Nuss who is not trying to prove himself? What if he earns the job and comes out relaxed? He could be great.

Any dropoff or improvement also depends on the rest of the team. Do we lose both WRs? Who do we bring in to shore up defense? How do any new coaches acclimate?
Lots of questions about next year that nothing to do with QB.

Will be extra tough for Nuss because he's losing two elite receivers in Nabers and BTJ. The others, Hilton, Sampson et al, are good but no experience. As with Jayden, could see an okay first year and much better second year as everyone gets some experience. Good news is that the Oline is back.

He’s barely played man and looks great. Imagine having played as many games as Daniels. Jayden has turned into a hell of a QB this year but Nuss has the potential to be great as well.

IMO, not much drop off at all. With all the reps, a better running game from the backs, and O-line improvements……life will be good on that side of the ball. He potentially throws for 3000-3500 yards.
