Jr. Burrow was average at best
Sr. Burrow threw 60 TDs
Sr. Burrow threw 60 TDs

Joey B, he had similar first season at LSU as JD5 and then exploded although I think JD5’s first yr at LSU was better than Joey B’s first yr

The myth of JDs struggles last year is just that, a myth. We don't have near the success last year without the exploits of Daniels.
Statistically Daniels had a good year last year. It was the missed opportunities downfield that frustrated people. He had excellent, open receivers last year and couldn’t pull the trigger or did not see them. If he was this guy last year, our offense would have been darn near as good as it is this year. Probably 2 fewer losses at least.

I rank Daniels #1 on this. Thought of him as a running QB last year that couldn't get through progressions and was afraid to throw unless receiver was wide open. He deserves credit for the improvement. Dude is a beast now!

quote:Part of the issue is the cognitive disconnect on the part of the Nuss Bus fans during last season and leading up to this season. They wanted to replace a very good Daniels with Nuss. Daniels played well in 2022, but they denigrated and minimized his play.
I know Burrow was solid his first year starting but was a drastic improvement also to the following season. JD I felt slowly improved last year but man he’s on fire this year. I really do think he can be good in the NFL. Trying to think of other players aside from Burrow, at any position, that has improved that drastically from one year to the next
In 2023, everyone recognizes Daniels' Heisman contender performances. The Nuss Bus Boys are crawfishing and overexaggerating the improvement by Daniels: "We would not have backed Nuss if Daniels played like this last year." No shite?!?! The Nuss Bussers wouldn't have backed Nuss over a Heisman contender?!?! How fricking prescient of them to foresee the possibility of improvement. Oh, wait, they didn't.
So yeah, the Nuss Bus Boys are screaming from the rooftops about how much Daniels has improved from 2022 to 2023 because, otherwise, they have to admit that they were dead wrong about Daniels. They guy who lead LSU to the SEC Championship game in 2022.

Both Burrow and Daniels made giant jumps from one year to the next. It’s hard to say who made the bigger improvement.
Kinda leaning towards Daniels there.
He's downright fearless putting the ball downfield now. His touch, accuracy, and timing has improved tremendously.

He has certainly improved his play this year, but to say he played poorly last year is bullshite.
He played poorly many times.
Do you think zero touchdowns counts as poorly? How many of those games? 3? 4?
Does getting held to 80 or 86 passing yards for a complete game count as poorly? Both of those happened last year.
Not throwing the ball does make for good ball security though.
All that said, he’s kicking arse since Florida State. Beat Bama.

Mettenberger was throwing the ball into the 5th row on out routes his junior year. The next season he was making NFL throws all over the field.

Ehh...
He improved from 05 to 06, but it wasn’t a super leap.
Better answer:
Damone Clark - almost doubled his tackles/ game from ‘20 to ‘21 (from 6 to 11.5).
He was the team leader in ‘20, then #2 nationally the next year and arguably robbed of the Butkus.
Others of note:
Kevin Minter
Jamarcus

Burrows jump was greater.
Heading into this year, JD was top 7 heisman odds. burrow wasn't on the list at all and came from absolutely no where

This may be the answer and yes, he deserved the Butkus.

Josh Reed. Third team tailback, never saw the field, to Biletnikoff winner

Chase was going to always be good. He didn’t improve a crazy amount as much as more opportunities

Hopefully it’ll be Nuss next year, the JD5 haters or the Nuss bus boys will have a lot to answer for if JD5 keeps on keeping on. I’m a huge JD5 dude but I AM and are and will be All In on the Nuss bus also. And if we somehow can get Underwood I believe this is going to be the greatest 10 year run of QBing in the hissery of LSU football!
