BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Detectives are investigating a deadly crash that involved a BRPD unit and multiple other vehicles late Friday night, October 20. According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the crash happened around 10:45 p.m. near the intersection of Government Street and South Foster Drive in Baton Rouge. Police said one person, Caleb James Chappetta, 38, was killed. The crash occurred as two uniformed BRPD officers were responding to an officer in need of assistance call on South 16th Street and Government Street, according to authorities. They added that there was a report of individuals carrying weapons. Police said that two officers tried to contact the individuals, and gunfire then broke out. An unknown number of people were shooting at officers, according to authorities. According to police, no officers were injured in the gunfire. Police said the individuals who were shooting at the officers took off from the scene, so it’s unclear whether any of them were injured. Police said that just before the crash happened, a marked BRPD Ford Explorer with lights and sirens activated was headed west on Government Street. The BRPD unit entered the intersection and crashed into a Chevrolet Impala that was headed south on South Foster Drive, according to BRPD. According to police, Chappetta was the driver of the Chevrolet Impala and died at the scene.. Two officers were taken to a hospital with injuries as a result of the crash. Police said six additional vehicles were also struck during the crash.

So the shooting went down between Red Stick Social and the new rooftop bar Firehaus... basically 1 year after Allie Rice...I thought I read a while back there are cameras in that area now.. is that accurate?

Just shooting at cops now, huh?

Ridiculous

Wish we'd get real leaders that would stop this BS, with extreme force. It's beyond time.

To me it's unclear whether or not the guy that was killed was even a part of it. Could have been but still unclear.

For those of you that are dumb and confused, this is how it played out.

1. BRPD responds to S 15th/Government for a report of people carrying weapons.
2. The people carrying weapons exchange gunfire with BRPD officers.
3. The officers who were shot at called for help.
4. The officers rushing to help those who were shot at ended up crashing at S Foster/Government.

well... we have this addis policeman who killed two female high school students just recently. I don't think it has gone to court yet.
Then brpd gets outed on its' torture warehouse and the chief goes out on the metro council in public making himself an arse.
And now we have the br police person who killed this man at Foster and Government.
It does not look good for the police.

At this point I'm for the Sheriff to go ahead and take control of all police work in the parish and go ahead and shut down the brpd and sell off its' equipment.

When this case hits the courts the city police is going to get wallowered out.

Let me guess, the People carrying weapons and shooting at officers haven’t been caught yet and probably won’t.

I need to know what bad choices these officers made in their lives to go sign up as a BRPD police officer making 35k/year.

I’d rather be homeless or work night shift at Circle K.
