I've hunted a lot of states and I've never heard of reciprocal license or not needing a license for hunting your own land.

You can hunt your own property in Alabama without a license if you're a resident. Same in Mississippi.

Looks like it's $250 plus fees for the Deer Stamp + 7-Day hunting license. Dang. I ain't going.

They don’t have to check you in the field. They see your Facebook post saying you killed a deer in Mississippi and see you don’t have a license.

Oh I believe that and I've seen that, I was mostly pointing out its not normal. So someone shouldn't be upset about it.

If you hunt your own land and the deer never leaves your land, I don't have an issue. You better be careful driving around with a dead deer in your truck though and be on a path thats either from your land to your house or processor or something. Most guys likely have a license just because they may hunt elsewhere also.

I've got a lifetime AL license, but I'm no longer a resident, so I've got to have it even though I pretty much only hunt my family's property in AL. I have to buy a non-resident license for a lease in North MS every year; I have yet to see a GW in the 12 years I've hunted the North MS lease. It's 35 miles to my house in TN (probably 30 miles just in MS), and I don't think I've even passed one anywhere between my house and the front gate in that time.

Taking a shot here, but perhaps this is what your friend is referring to.

In order to purchase a Mississippi hunting license, you must have proof of hunter education.

Mississippi will honor hunter education from other states.

I was invited to a hunt (deer) this fall in MS and I said I don't have a MS licence, and was told it didn't matter, it's reciprocal. I don't believe that.. is it true I can legally shoot a deer on private land in MS with a GA hunting license?

I know too many hard leg MS green jeans that would love for a Non resident from GA to roll through their roadblock with a rifle, a backstrap in the box, and no hunting license.

Friend of a friend, I've shot (at) clays with him once. I educated my friend that this trip isn't happening, at least not with me.

GA has reciprocity with SC when FISHING the common waters of the two states BUT if you are a licensed GA hunter and are duck hunting that same water on the SC side of the line, you'd better have a SC hunting license and SC State duck stamp.

Can imagine MS would have hunting reciprocity with GA when SC does not.

As a GA resident, I've had to purchase licenses when I've hunted AL, MS and LA (get a break there with a lower cost native license).

Only good counties in MS to hunt are Hancock and Harrison, if you aren't hunting there you might as well stay at home.
