Deer- Is GA license reciprocal in MS on private land?

I was invited to a hunt (deer) this fall in MS and I said I don't have a MS licence, and was told it didn't matter, it's reciprocal. I don't believe that.. is it true I can legally shoot a deer on private land in MS with a GA hunting license?

No. The only reciprocity agreements I’ve ever heard of are along bodies on water on state boundary lines. MS and GA share no boundary.
I believe MS and GA share a reciprocity agreement on conceal carry permits, but nothing on hunting licenses

False. Out of state hunters have to have a license in public or private land.

They aren’t your friends; they will ask you to bring four cases of beer, and they will pick on you all weekend.

How easy is it to get a MS hunting license on short notice? Assuming the person already has a hunting license in GA.

Buy it online in a matter of minutes.

Not only is there no reciprocity you have to have a non resident hunting license to hunt land you personally own in Mississippi.

And you will need a NR hunting license, and a NR deer permit, and possibly primitive weapon license depending on what season is open at the time, prepare thy anus

Why would you need a license on private land?

The only people in ms that don’t need a license are ms resident land owners with the deed in their name and only hunting on their own property. If your name isn’t on the deed and you are not a resident you need a license. Even the children of the landowner.

Mississippi is the south....if it takes more than the money and a couple of minutes the system is down. If Mississippi were up north or out west it would take an act of congress but its the south....just the money and a couple of minutes...

While I am certain that is true there is a chance that the landowner and the person who told him he didn't need a license knows that they man ain't going to come around checking. May be his son or something, who knows. I would buy one anyhow because the money is used for a good cause and it is not neighborly to shoot another persons deer without at least paying for a license to do so....

I don't know the MS regulations all too well but there seems to be a lot of confusion up in here. Hunting licenses are generally not reciprocal. Most states require non-resident's to purchase a non-resident hunting license regardless of property ownership (I guess MS is an exception). Most states don't care if you're a land owner of the property you're hunting or not you'll still need a hunting license.

MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks
quote:
All persons born on or after January 1, 1972, must satisfactorily complete a hunter education course approved by the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks before purchasing a Mississippi hunting license. If it is determined that the holder was not entitled to issuance or obtained the license or hunter education certificate by fraudulent means, the license will be revoked or canceled. It is unlawful to issue a hunting license to any person in this age group without proof of completion of the hunter education course. [MS. Code 49-7-20]
Resident - Each resident of the State of Mississippi ages sixteen (16) through sixty-four (64), must obtain a hunting license, except while hunting on lands titled in his name. Any person sixty-five (65) or older, or any person otherwise exempted from obtaining a hunting license, must have documentation with him/her at all times while hunting as described in "Exemptions" [MS. Code 49-7-5] below.
Non-Resident - All non-resident hunters, except minors under the age of sixteen (16), are required to obtain a hunting license while hunting in the State of Mississippi.

Having a Georgia license won’t help you obtain a Mississippi license at all. If you have the ability to get on a computer, purchasing a license will be easy.

Barely any LE of any kind in the 'Sip. I've never seen a GW outside of his truck and even that is a rare occurrence. None of my friends nor family have hunting licenses, but we only hunt private property, where there's no chance of encountering a warden. Dove, duck and fishing is a different situation though.

I wonder how they handle it if it's a relative? Son hunting land in his father's name.

I've hunted a lot of states and I've never heard of reciprocal license or not needing a license for hunting your own land. The only time a license often is not needed is fishing a pond that is 100% on your own land. If you fish a small lake for instance you share you'd need a license.
Furthermore, its not a matter of getting caught while hunting. If you are hunting from GA you are going to likely bring the deer back through Alabama and Ga and you can get in trouble there with a un marked deer or no license.

I have never even seen the green jeans in my area of MS. I bought a non-resident license while I was still living in LA even though I own land. Once I moved I continue to buy a resident license in case I go hunt a friends land. It’s up to the op if he wants to take the chance and not pay the extortion fees to hunt out of state. There’s a good chance he would have zero problems unless he gets pulled over heading back to Georgia with an ice chest of meat and no license.
