If unions didn't exist, we wouldn't have a 40-hour work week, healthcare, pensions, and the ability to ensure safe working conditions.
Then why does all the industries that don’t have unions still get these benefits. Pensions are a thing of the past it’s 401K’s now.
Unions might have been the driving force in the early/mid 1900’s but they are pretty useless except for their officers now a days.

I was listening to CNBC in the car earlier and they were interviewing a worker on strike. He asked him what he wanted out of the strike. The worker talked about pensions, legacy healthcare, and other things. He finished by saying he just wants it to back to the way it was before. So this idiot wants it to go back to what bankrupted the company. These people are dumber than a dump truck.

I think the realities of the situation are far different than what is being reported. The union knows it will not get 46% raise and legacy Healthcare. It won't get 36%. In the end Mary Barra will make a deal at about 22% over 5 years.....or she will be out of a job. She knows this, plus she is under fire from some shareholders over trying to pay off some of the Union bigwigs a while back.
What I always find funny is that management begged the UAW to drop the pensions and the legacy Healthcare and essentially freeze wages since 2009. UAW does it. Then these corporations start making very healthy profits, but they can't give raises.....or they forgot the unions actually helped their asses out of a real bind and forgot what the unions did for them to keep them in business as the raise the prices on their vehicles.
Also UAW has GM by the balls in reality. They own 8% of GM which makes them one of the largest single shareholders of GM

And so what they act like they are the only people on the face of the Earth that can be trained to do that job.
I bet if they were able to hire anyone off the street they could put out an ad saying $25/hr starting pay and get hundreds to show up. If 5 years later half of those feel like they should get $40/hr they can go elsewhere.

Conservatives are still fighting for corporations even though the veil has been lifted, and everyone knows they hate you.

99% of the population hates them and the Big 3. We want affordable cars and the greed isn’t helping.
Posted on 9/26/23 at 10:06 pm to tigerterrace
oh, so you’re scared that the price of a car you aren’t currently in the market for could increase in the future? Hate to break it to you but these companies will continue to raise prices regardless of their overhead.

This is such a low IQ take. It is exactly like when people say shoplifting doesn't hurt shoppers or storeowners because they have insurance.
You’re equating paid laborers with shoplifters. And you expect to be taken seriously?

No, moron, he’s pointing out that the increased cost of doing business, regardless of where that increase comes from, is passed on to consumers.

I'll be honest, I've been anti modern union for most of my life. And I still have a lot of that sentiment.
But I can't help but notice that it often results in a default position of being pro-corporation in a way that has brought us (traditional Americans) very little in return. To the contrary, in nearly every meaningful fight those corporate interests we've backed have eventually turned against us.

“They” , the mainstream media (gov propaganda machine). Stop watching, they are stroking you on every issue.

American auto manufacturers have already said F the public
It isn't about them "eventually" turning on us.

There were two identical Ford plants with one being in England and the other in Germany. The German plant produced over twice as many cars than the strike prone Brit plant. Not hard to guess which one was more competitive in the international market.
Saying this without realizing that Germany has an incredibly labor-friendly climate that surpasses England and obviously the US.

I lost these guys at "I wanna work 32 hrs but still get paid the full 40." They want 40% raises because the CEO got one. Who you kidding buddy? You're building one section of a car and not well I might add. The CEO is in charge of a multi billion business and has certain pressures to meet company goals and investor demands. It's like having a business. You assuming all the risks. And those risks pay off, you make millions. Then Joe Blow who you hired and could have cared less during that time whether you succeeded or not, gets a whiff of your rewards and demands a cut of that.

I don't care what they or the automakers do.
I do care that taxpayers are guaranteeing their lucrative pensions and are called on to bail out the companies. Screw that.
