Teams must manage their roster to ensure that no more than one star player is unavailable for the same game.

Teams must ensure that star players are available for national television and in-season tournament games.

Teams must maintain a balance between the number of one-game absences for a star player in home games and road games -- with a preference for those absences to happen in home games.

Teams must refrain from any long-term shutdown -- or near shutdown -- when a star player stops participating in games or plays in a materially reduced role in circumstances affecting the integrity of the game.

Teams must ensure that healthy players resting for a game are present and visible to fans.

How do they define what a “star player” is?

So Jose Alvarado can get back to back rest days, but BI can’t?

I believe it's a player who has been an All Star or All NBA in the last 3 years.

Not that it would ever be relevant for the Pelicans but only Zion qualifies

Is this retroactive so we can punish Toní for being a bitch?

What?

This whole thing is absurd that we have to get this level of rules for players playing

Adding in national televised games is funny, sucks for Lakers, Celtics and Knicks

The League HAD to do something...it was only gonna get worse & worse...& it was already TURRIBLE !! Maybe this will, at least, make things a bit better.

Just another reason I much prefer MLB to the NBA...in general. You go to a MLB game, you can almost always count on the star players playing...the entire game.

IMO the simplest thing to do (If they were serious about star players playing) would be to set a maximum number of game a player can miss in a season and if he goes past that he is ineligible to play in the postseason.

iirc the NHL does/did something similar to this.

nah. that's not fair if someone is legit hurt to start the season but returns in March or April.

It should simply be tied to their salary. It doesn't need to be drastic. Your max salary is say $30M. You get $30M if you play 75+ games. 65+ is a deduction of 3%, 55+ is a deduction of 6%, anything under 42 games is a deduction of 10%. Doesn't matter the reason. Only applies to those making MLE money or more. doesn't affect the cap.

I heard there is an exception for players 30something+, that have played a ton of minutes. So guys like Curry and James won't be included..

I just don't see how they can enforce this considering there are day-to-day injuries that could require, in theory, multiple star players to miss a game or two.

LOL

I’m not even trying to defend the NBA players but this comparison is absolute arse.

Almost more arse then watching a baseball game.

So in the long run this hurts the Pels right? The top teams will have their best players playing more

They'll likely still rest dudes just as much as they always do, but just not at the same time.

Only Zion on Pels's list anyway. It hurts Warriors and Wolves, they have 4 all-stars.

I will admit MLB, in the not too distant past, was extremely slow & boring. The slowest of all major sports to adapt to try & increase popularity. But they have FINALLY made major changes recently...that have made their sport MUCH more entertaining to the average fan. I assume most everybody that knows anything about MLB...is aware of what is going on in MLB.
