I know a guy who has a crimson colored truck with a big A on it. He has never been to an Alabama game in his life. When I asked why he was a fan, he said that he has relatives in Alabama.

Whatever makes you feel persecuted, I guess

Doesn't help that we can't fund the cost-of-living stipend anymore.
The three UL System FBS schools need to come together and force funding for COA. All three of us have our hands tied by lack of student fee and no way to pass a student fee.
COA is the cost of doing business in this era. They have to work together to get institutional funding. Redirect from campus projects, parking fees, whatever it takes.
These three programs together, have enough pull in the legislature make this happen.
And before LSU fans come in here bitching about more institutional support for Tech, ULL and ULM, we are talking about less than a million per year per school to get this funded. Every school in the FBS is doing it, but UL System schools have their hands tied.

You have much more confidence in Louisiana government than I do. You aren't wrong, but you know this isn't going to happen.
There's a reason so many of us all live in Texas now. Go Hawks!...or even better...Goooo Northeast!

K. Is he also sporting an RCAF plate as well?

While their athletic fee is a sliding scale based on hours, a full-time student at Texas State pays a minimum $264 athletic fee.
29k full-time students. That’s an extra $15.3 Million per year for their athletic budget. Sun Belt program that Cajuns, ULM and LA Tech are competing with.
That’s a heck of a heads start every other G5 program gets over its Louisiana competition.

Doubtful. The uproar would be way more political negativity than any of our politicians would be willing to handle.

UL has been doing this, it shows as a $4-6M deficit. It’s covered by auxiliary fees generated by on campus activities.
But, Dr Savoie had told the athletic department that will no longer be acceptable.

You can be willfully delusional if you'd like. Whatever makes you feel better about your fanbase.

It’s not supposed to be allowed, but they should all be doing it. I promise you Louisiana Tech fans in private have been hammering the administration for not doing what you did. It worked. If the big three of the system all did it together, nobody is stopping them.

Zero effort by the RCAF to fundraise should tell you all you need to know.
This is a much taller task than I think you realize. They managed to get a huge amount of money from OLOL for Cajun field upgrades. Very good friend of mine is prominent in RCAF and their efforts. Very interesting to hear how things happen from the inside. The portal and NIL are crippling schools like UL, particularly for football. Boosters don’t want to invest in players that likely will be here for one season and bolt. Especially when LSU takes them.

I lived in both cities and graduated from both schools. I think the Bama thing is a meme that sprang out of one picture here posted 12 years ago. Sidewalk LSU fans love feeling as if they’re persecuted or picked on in Lafayette. It’s bizarre. Most actual Acadiana LSU alumni I know hope the Cajuns do well.

This describes me. I have UL season tickets for basketball and baseball. I grew up in Lafayette, went to LSU, then came back to Lafayette for work. I've observed it over the last 10 years. I don't really care about it, but it's absolutely real.

Anyway
I’m half way to thinking the Cajuns should just punt on football and pump NIL money into baseball or basketball. As long as our prize for 12-13 wins is a New Orleans bowl, is the juice really worth the squeeze? G5 schools can win in baseball and basketball.

quote:Serious question for Lafayette people. Was Hudspeth a swinger? I definitely heard that rumor when he was still coaching there. And read it on TD
This, plus Hud was a socialite. There’s a certain large type of people in Lafayette want to be seen, and Hud made it “cool” to be part of the crowd at Cajun Field. The Hudspeths threw parties, his wife was in different women’s groups with the Lafayette social scene, etc.

To be fair to Desormeaux, we have a bunch of players who have left over the last two years to start for major conference teams
Because they didn't want to play for a crappy program. Right?
And so this won't be a problem in the future, right? Correct, because those better players won't even sign there to begin with. ULL is going to have to come up with some big NIL cash to pull any decent talent in to begin with.
This is coming from a USL Alum.

quote:Hit the nail on the head. Lots of people involved in ULL with that Cajun boomer mentality (same people that were satisfied with .500 seasons with Coach O) that being "one of us" is more important than being competent.
Some of the hire was saving money, but some of it was trying to bring up “one of us” to lead the program and stay long term

I think you’re a dork for likely not supporting your alma mater but it is a point worth noting
NIL/transfer portal won’t be any kinder to G5s than they have been since 2021. This is the hand coaches at the sun belt level will be dealt.
