Might wanna try a Catahoula Lake hunt before the battle of outlaws, ldwf, and the surveyors actually starts (likely not this season), it may end up half goose reserve and landowners getting thousands of acres and the ACOE saying frick it with the structures (although for some reason they let LDWF control the water), but still.
Then again most is local hunters and probably wouldn't be much for "camp" shots, just craziness and a lot of ducks if its anything like last season.

There are a lot of complex issues going on there, but that's great advice because its a hunting area unlike any other in the state.
Blake Soileau with Full Strap and Stringer could give you a good experience or introduce you to the right people. I can put you in touch with him. I'm sure there are others as well.

FSS sold their camp at Stott's landing I believe but im sure they're still around. Level 7 is trying to get in with some landowners to start guiding more I believe. They made the rapides side wma and part of dewey wills but are now calling it "the little river basin" and runs basically all of Rapides tiny little portion to the canal and a little past to French fork. Dumb af that LDWF says "first come first serve, no arguing over spots". as if that hasn't already happened out there and every day of the season on every WMA. The dewey wills "green tree" area being known for pepper battles and trucks getting fricked with.
ETA: but when it's good, I can't think of many places nearby that have as many chances for an eclectic bag of ducks. Sometimes youll ride out with like 15 different species lol. The weirdest ive known of (wasnt there) were hybrids and one cinnamon teal my buddies grandpaw shot forever ago.

That wasn't his camp. Although the spots on the Lake are his. He was the connection for Honey Brake back in the day until him, Drew and Jared (Honey Brake) got into it and he went off on his own. Thats the reason why Honey Brake doesn't hunt the Lake anymore. He was leasing that Camp/Lodge year to year. We hunted with him several opening weekends for many years. I heard he does have some new lodging around there. Only thing sucks about out there is water. If you don't have the water then most places you can't get to. I have had some very good hunts out there and I have also had some not so good ones. Luck of the draw.

It would be nice to see John and Rinella step out of those firstlite bubbles and support african American fowl hunters in Louisiana and abroad.

Gotcha. Never had to get a guide there and we don't usually hunt that side of the lake so I am not the best person to ask about that end,, but yes it's a major issue with water. Word is honey brake is getting more into catering to deer hunting and trying to ease out of duck hunting.
