Eric Andolsek was born on this day in 1966. Andolsek would be a 2x All-SEC OL in 1886-1987 & be drafted by Detroit Lions in the 5rd of the 1988 Draft. He was struck by a semi truck while working in his yard in 1992 that killed him at age of 25.
RIP Eric

I was up in Dallas, years back, met up with a number of coaches, in the group was Bert Hill. He was on the staff of the Lions during the time Eric was there. Bert had a number of stories on Andolsek.

I went to football camp at USL back in the day and Andolsek attended that year also. He was a good 6'5 and 270 lbs. I was a freshman QB and CB for my not very good high school football team. Andolsek had a good 7 inches and 120 lbs on me and easily outran me in some of the drills. It was then that I knew my future career lay outside professional football.

I'll always see the Notre Dame game, when Erik's name is mentioned. An LSU back fumbled, and a Notre Dame player fell on the ball. The TV Announcers proclaimed "Notre Dame's Ball". Notre Dame was the darling of all the sports media in those days. Instantly, Andelsek rushed up and drove his shoulder into the Notre Dame players back. The ball squirted out and LSU recovered.
He seemed to approach every play the same. The play isn't over until the whistle blows and the official was too slow.

Who the Hell downvotes this!!! Eric was one of the nicest people off the field and one of the strongest, MEANEST S.O.B.s on the field.

He was a beast. He was at tackle and Dr. Nacho Albecrombo played guard. Unreal that of all things he was killed while weedeating his yard next to the road. RIP

Only Dr. Nacho is left from Tommy Hodson's line.

Still on my all-time LSU OL.
Eric started some at DL as a true Fr in '84 after Barbay and Thomas got hurt.
Probably available somewhere but the Lions played the Bears on Thanksgiving which matched Eric against William "the Refrigerator" Perry. And I think Eric worked the Fridge. Andolsek was just so strong.

LSU has had more than it's share of athletes dying too young, but EA's death is one of the most bizarre.
RIP to a great Tiger.

Happy belated!
I remember that day vividly……the exact time and place I was.
Such a sad sad day
