You can trade with like minded nations
there isn't a nation with the same wage and trade policies of the USA.
There is no "apples to apples" when discussing international trade.
Companies and individuals should be able to purchase the things they value with their dollar, and without government interference.

American manufacturers utilizing domestic labor and materials are at a competitive disadvantage to every other nations mfgrs.
n a reversal of global trade patterns, a Hong Kong shoe company recently opened a factory in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Loretta Lee, the founder and chairwoman of Merchant House International Ltd.—which makes everything from industrial work boots to kitchen towels and Christmas decorations—told the Wall Street Journal she found it “ridiculous” to ship US cow hides across the Pacific to be processed, made into shoes, and returned to US consumers as leather goods.

Is the era of outsourcing textile production ending? American Merchant says yes

domestic home textiles industry that once made billions of dollars’ worth of sheets and towels decamped for Asia, manufacturing in the category is slowly starting to return to the United States. The latest entry in the Made in the USA movement comes from a new company called American Merchant, which is putting the final touches on its first manufacturing facility in Bristol, Virginia—a town of 17,000 in the southwestern corner of the state, part of a Tri-Cities region that also includes Johnson City and Kingsport, Tennessee, and that is perhaps best known as “The Birthplace of Country Music.” The new textiles mill, which will use American-grown cotton and American-spun yarn, expects to be up and running (and shipping towels) by the second half of this year.

Best thing he did was rescind all the Obama era executive orders. Only problem is, when President Depends got elected, he tossed out all the EOs by Trump and brought back most of the Obama EOs.
And this the main reason I want Ron over him. I trust Ron to actually understand how to get meaningful legislation passed. I just don’t think trump has the interest/ability.

How do you compete globally?
So if China enslaved their entire population and was able to sell the cheapest “everything” because of it…..and take all that money to build up their military…..would you care?
It will never be a house of cards until their population revolts or we stop sending them trillions of dollars.

quote:This is a weird thing to me. One of the things Trump people like to brag about is low inflation. But… onshoring labor can only happen two ways: massive pay cuts for US workers , or massive price inflation to support the drastic increase in wages manufacturers will have to pay.
Trade reciprocity to grow a manufacturing based and have less of a service based economy.
ETA:: jeebus had no idea this has already gone 12 pages.

Trust me...when you see the name on a post and you know they are anti-Trump, woke, a Democrat, a girly boy, etc. just hit the down vote like I do and don't bother to read their dribble. They live for the attention since obviously they didn't get it as a child.

There were plenty of nations to deal with that would have placed us in the place that we are.
We competed just fine.

NOPE! it's called level playing field.

If you are manipulating your currency (China is doing that right now), placing tariffs...

I’m taking your argument to the extreme to point out how maybe….just maybe….the world has changed and the traditional conservative free trade arguments need to be revisited.
And for the record, I have no problem with free trade at all with countries that allow currency to flow freely and back to individuals and companies who foster production. State owned companies don’t meet this definition.

Until we can file a lawsuit against China, it's tariffs or war.

Why do you want to put Americans at a disadvantage?

Yes you are. You're bringing in historical arguments when discussing policy arguments. Totally different (and irrelevant) conversation.
it's 100% relevant. You just don;t want it to be because it exposes truth and facts.

No. You're trying to use government intervention in the past to pretend that it's now "market solutions". It was never a market solution.
No I am pointing out that throughout history govs have been involved in markets. No matter the form of Gov. They have always and will always. The only question is which type do you prefer.
quote:
It is, and you're using Leftist talking points to attack it. LITERAL communist bull shite.
No I'm not. You are confused as to what that means. I never advocated for the US gov to OWN anything nor any industry.
I am promoting a REPUBLIC.

Does it concern you that if everyone adopted your worldview we’d just have groups of echo chambers that gradually lose the ability to even communicate with one another?
