Commanders and R'volution are the two that come to mind.

We have enjoyed all of our meals as well as the atmosphere at Italian Barrel.

Easy, Venezia's on Carrollton Ave.

Great mom & pop Italian food with a superb environment to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or just get together with family & friends.

Anyone here tried it and really enjoyed it?

Went this past weekend had a great meal

I like it because it's different than the other NO Italian places - red sauce, fried stuff, comfort pastas. That's great and I love Vincent's but this is lighter more modern takes on Italian food and it was executed perfectly.

N7, mentioned by a few others, is one of my favorites; but this time of year I would not go unless you can get one of the few inside tables. Their courtyard is just too hot right now, even in the shade with fans. Osteria Lupo is a good choice.

Commander's Palace. I have done it twice with the wine parings. Spectacular dining experience. The one table is for four people only, and the head chef is your server.

You have to make reservations months in advance, but you can get basically the same menu, just minus some of the extra bells and whistles, in the dining rooms. They call this the Chef's Playground Menu.

Venezia's
I like Venezia's, in fact we got some very good take out pizza from there a couple of weeks ago. But if the wife thinks Vincent's is too casual for her birthday (no problem with that) she is not going to want Venezia's.

No indoor dining at Nor Joe’s. Small outside patio area in front of the store, overlooking Frisco Ave. and the train tracks. Great place during Mardi Gras for their cannoli king cakes and mini-muffuletta trays! I like to bring visiting friends here for a muffuletta fix if I’m not up to facing the Quarter.
