Does winning the CWS keep people here?

We have already lost Wes Johnson. He was applying for everything. We will be losing at least one more staff member. Does this win get that member back? I say no. Also how many players decide to come back that was wanting to leave for the draft. And does it change the mind of players considering jumping in the portal?

Winning opens the door for staff to get bigger jobs elsewhere. That's going to happen in any sports organization.

Players in the portal would want to come here and guys on the team that are going to get benched may want to see if the grass is greener elsewhere.

I'd say it keeps people more than makes others leave but opportunities open more than they close for winning programs.

I'd say it works both ways. Winning the CWS makes other teams want our guys more, but it also makes other guys want to come here.

I don’t see how winning will keep anyone here. Not saying everyone is leaving, but coaches will try to strike will the iron is hot and get promotions and players will sometimes stay in hopes of winning a championship (not the other way around).

Are you saying this as a negative that people don't want to work for Jay? Or play for Jay? Why was the staff member leaving in the first place?

Players will have more of a reason to stay. Staff probably takes the higher paying gig and maybe sends out a thank you letter to the fans.

Happens to every winning team.

There is some evidence that Jay forced a change in pitching philosophy after the Miss State series, and would you look at that, it worked!

As long as we don’t lose anyone to A&M

What other staff member are we losing? Also I think with players it will be about playing time/scholarships. I would imagine some kids will get "processed".

It’s the other way around. Their draft potential will never be higher and they’ve already climbed the mountain here. Their incentive to stay is much lower.

I would only be concerned with coaches leaving and making lateral moves. Coaches taking a step up to advance their career is actually a good sign.

Two weeks is probably less time then they would’ve liked to hammer the portal and flip the roster like they had wanted.

So I could see less movement from the roster than originally anticipated. I thought there was a good bit of dead weight but I look forward to seeing how they develop if they have to go that route.

How happy are you that Coach Johnson just won the National Championship?

How do you know Wes was applying for everything?

Wes was leaving before we even made it to Omaha so that is a non-factor in the scheme of this issue.

Winning the CWS probably makes it easier for fringe-draft guys to leave and strike while the iron is hot.

It will definitely keep players here. JJ will bring in transfers like last year. I think JJ will bring maybe not as good as this years team, but one that will get us back to Omaha for the 2024 season. I would think JJ will bring in a GREAT class for next year. This man can recruit and coach. Lucky to have him.

We had an older team and that’s one of the reasons why we won the whole thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost a lot of players. They have climbed the mountain top and many will want to maximize their draft stock. I would be surprised if we lost anyone to the portal that we really wanted to keep. You might have the rare guy who wants to be closer to home transfer or those that will not get playing time leave. I figured it will take Jay about 2 years to rebuild and be back in Omaha. As far as Wes goes he obviously wanted to be a head coach and that is why he took the LSU job. All indications are they got along pretty well.
