When do you take a long walk for exercise?

Not being critical of you personally, but it seems like anytime drinking or depression come up on the OT, multiple posters have this response ready to go. It’s just not a solution for everyone.

It really is the solution for most. In order to not drink or sit around anxiously, you need to have some sort of activity to take up the time where you used to drink or be anxious.

If this guy usually drinks from 6-8 in his backyard then he needs something else to do during that time period. If he does nothing, he will just want to drink.

man, honestly i dunno cause i have 3 young kids so cant help too much.

but i would say

1) start lifting or some form of sport exercise you like
2) find a hobby like fishing or something to do around the house.

sorry cant be of more help, with 3 young boys into every sport known to man, homework, lifting.....i barely have time to breath much less get bored.

I know for me, having exercised in the mornings and evenings, I just like exercising after work better than before work. Rushing out the door early in the morning when I'm still exhausted is significantly less enjoyable than an evening run, when the sun is setting, things are cooler, and getting to de-compress from my days.

Part of why an evening run or, if you choose so, a walk, can be nice is because you get to release the day's stress and enjoy being outside for a little bit.

I know what you mean. After work I tend to hang out with my dog on the porch, grill dinner and have a few drinks. When I'm not drinking alcohol, I will have mineral water or similar by the grill just to have something in my hands besides a beer. I'll also make myself busy by cleaning up around the house or working on projects. After about a week of not drinking, I don't have to busy myself quite as much.

I have 21 days at a time off. Pretty much a vacation every time. Wife and I are late mid 40’s and kids are gone. We travel and I have 6 acres and a restored Acadian home to tend to all the time. Lots of flowers and yard maintenance! I also cook a lot. Getting very interested and getting batter at gourmet cooking foods and presentation.

Take my dog for a walk and then eat dinner. Watch tv or read a book. I have beer in the fridge and bourbon at the bar but unlike some weak people, I don’t need alcohol to get through my day or night.

Yard work, veg out in front of the TV, visit their girlfriend while the wife is cooking...all sorts of shite to do other than drinking.

You will enjoy your dogs, yard, grilling much more sober. 6-8 beers every night is destroying your body physically and mentally.

I bought 25 acres of mature trees with an old house, and I’m completely renovating and customizing. I get a little done every day, and I’m about 75% complete. Once the house is done I’ll start working on the property more, but considering I bought it for land value only, I’m adding a ton of value to my investment.

Cook dinner, walk the dogs, sometimes a puzzle or lego with my youngest, watch a movie or show with husband. Read in bed.

Drinking at night interrupts my sleep. I will always wake up at 3 or 4 if I drink much of anything. Now a gummy…different story.
