Had one. shite the bed after 3 years. Watches are a consumable item to me. I will 100% break it. I'm always getting bruised or scraped up and so is my watch.

Ordered a Hamilton.

I had a quartz analog Timex Expedition like that and the date complication broke. Admittedly, it did survive 3 or 4 pretty rough years, but I was still surprised.

I have a digital Expedition now, and the compass doesn't work. It's possible I somehow got the "Eastern Hemisphere" version, I guess.

Never checked out their field watches, but I've had good luck with Russian/Soviet shite.

I picked up the Pagani Design “tribute” (knock-off) version of the 007 watch. Chinese assembled with seiko innards, automatic. $90 off eBay. Solid, and I didn’t spend a mint. I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

Lumtec is American Made from Ohio and offers some great field watches in the $500 range. I have a couple of the 300m models and they're tanks with awesome customer service. Their upcoming releases look great as well.

This will work.

It drives me nuts when a manufacturer produces a stock picture with the date wheel out of alignment. If the date mechanism is picking up that early (10:10 PM) move it to 10:10 AM so it doesn't look broken.

I was looking for a watch, not a ChiComm tracking device.

I needed a watch that the hands glows or whatever, not push buttons and damn sure not reach in my pocket for a phone.

When you're fishing on the lake and it's dark before sunrise, you want to know what time it is without having to fiddle frick around. And who in their right mind wa to to deal with a stupid phone when you have your hands full.

I understand how people have moved away from watches but I think many that have never worn a watch miss the convenience and simplicity of them as a time-telling device. Mobile phones have become so ubiquitous in large part due to the fact they are convenient. The vast majority of their uses are at least as convenient and in most cases more convenient than the stand-alone items that do the same job. This is where watches excel compared to a phone. A subtle head and wrist movement is all I need to do in order to know the time. It can be so subtle that even a person right in front of you won't notice, which is some situations can be a very good thing. Watches are a hobby for me so that is a whole different thing but even if I was not passionate about watches I am passionate about time. My day is compartmentalized into blocks of time, type A as I am, and I have a "need" to track it more or less constantly. There is just no better tool for keeping a constant check on time than a watch. I have no idea how often I nearly subconsciously check the time throughout the day but I guarantee if left with only a phone for monitoring time I would be less efficient and due to my love of watches a little less happy on a daily basis. One of my favorite uses is when I wake up before my alarm in the morning and can check the time in the dark easily and see if I have enough time to bother rolling back over. Every time I pick up my phone and get blasted with the light I already know I am going to get up whether I have 10 minutes or 1.5 hours left to sleep.

Look on amazon (or whatever) for “Citizen men’s field watch”. There’s an ecodrive for under $200. I have 1–sturdy, easy to read. Powered by light. Sit it under a lamp for a few hours and its good for up to 60 days.

Your lume isn't gonna do much after it has been in the dark all night.
