Quit acting like you don’t say stupid shite. Just because no one notices you means you get away with it.

quote:Yep. Which is why I’d still go with Skenes too. I just thought it would be a interesting discussion since it’s not so different from the regional. The idea is to get to 2-0. 1-1 in either order gets you in the same spot.
But we aren't playing a shitty team in Game one of the CWS.

But for those who didn’t want him to pitch vs Tulane, the argument is similar.
It’s not similar. The regionals are finished after 3 or 4 days tops, no off days (unless it rains).
There are days off in Omaha. There are no weak 4 seeds in Omaha (Oral Roberts was mis-seeded). You have to throw your ace so that he can throw again later in the week.

Twice would be my bet, but it’s plausible a 3rd appearance comes into play.

Agree with you here. Throwing Skenes in game 1 so he can come back and throw again before the champ series on Saturday is just not happening.
ETA: MAYBE, with the way some other teams are having guys go 120 pitches, I guess Jay could have him go 70, then maybe 35-40 later?
But this staff has emphasized routine all season long so I don’t think he pitches again after his first game until champ series.

He’s too valuable to be used that way both for LSU and beyond. It’s simply not an option.

Not necessarily true. Lange was going to throw for a third time against Florida had we won game 2 of the championship series.

Only because we lost a game and had to play 5 to get there. It would have been our 8th game and we were already running on fumes.

You don’t want it to be only once because he didn’t pitch until Monday instead of two days earlier in Saturday.

Omaha is exactly like a regional, then a super. So for that “regional,” game one and game two have the exact same value in terms of where you’d end up going 0-2, 2-0, or 1-1. Going 1-0 means nothing if you lose the next game. You’re in the same game if you lose the first then win the second. So the idea is to put yourself in the best situation to win both, not just game 1 alone. So that’s why it’s a question and worth debating.
All of this is true, but momentum is a real thing. I’d rather lean on Skenes and get one under our belt and get some momentum. You roll Floyd out there and get deflated in game 1 and it could be a short trip.

If we go 3-0 in our bracket, he only throws once before the finals. Then again for game 1. What’s the confusion?

I think some folks think he can come back and pitch in a 3-1 elimination game or some sort of scenario like that.
I just don’t see that happening.

He’s not starting on 3/4 days rest. No way. We agree.

I don’t think people think he starts. It would be a throw the kitchen sink at them type of game and you get 2-3 shutout innings from him.
But where does that put you routine-wise if you make it to champ series.
And people will say, “well you can’t worry about that because it’s win or go home”

I’ve been watching the weather patterns in the Midwest. Would hate to waste Skenes with the chance or tornadoes next week.

Not at all. He just hasn’t been pitching well lately
He’d given up 7 R in 21 IP in his last 4 games before today (3.00 ERA) and 2 of those runs came when Jay tried to extend him too far against Georgia. He gave up 2 through 6 IP before giving up 2 in the 7th. He gave up 1 run in each of the other 3 games.

If we play USM, I pitch Floyd. We can beat them with Floyd and our bats. Save Skenes for Wake Forest. Period. Gives us best chance
