My belief is that there are many people who, when presented with information which seems plausible enough on the surface level to seem self-evident, are not just willing to accept it as fact but then also don't care enough about the subject to dig below what they are being told. The self-evident (seeming) aspect of what they have been presented makes them confident they are being told the truth, thus anyone saying anything different is just being contrary.
These are people who just want to live their lives and not have to worry about being lied to, so it's easier for them to stick with the lie than having to look into something over their heads that they really don't care about.
Record heat? Man-made global climate change. Record cold? Man-made global climate change. Record rainfall? Record drought? Man-made global climate change.
This also gives people the illusion that we have a large level of control, thus it's not just Nature it's "those evil people" who need to be stopped. I've posted before on the need for many to bond together to fight the noble fight against some external enemy and without that enemy they fracture along ideological lines then that "noble fight" becomes within themselves. This illusion of control allows those types to be manipulated, even to the point of those pushing the rhetoric not even needing any backing science (since it all is just viewed as self-evident).

Funny when you consider politicians and bureaucrats make more pollution than cow. Nobody is recommending to remove them.
Why not destroy 200k cars or 200 commercial jets. Why pick on poor old cows they actually serve a purpose.

Retired dairy cows become cheap hamburgers and stew meat. Depending on the age they plan on slaughtering them the ripple effect on the overall dairy cattle population in the next few years would be very significant.
