Dumb decisions were made by a lot of people.

I feel absolutely awful for the family and friends of this young kid. He certainly didn’t deserve it, no one intended for it to happen, but 18 year olds make dumb decisions and unfortunately this was one that cost a life.

Probably not much people could do. You keep a set of eyes on the kid, hopefully a light, and throw a ring and try to get to him.

He jumped in the ocean at night while underway. Dunno if any crew could have saved him depending on the situation.

There weren’t any parents on the boat because it was a Grad Week excursion. Only Grad Week kids were allowed onto the boat.

He jumped on a dare.

That is not "tragically" it's "stupidly" jumped.

How about not paying for your kid to get plastered drunk in the Bahamas?

Kids die every single year falling off balconies in Panama City on senior trips.

Just go ahead and lecture everyone on teenage drinking and your helicopter parenting spiel so we can get it over with.

My trip after high school was to go work on rigs. Did not die.

As I understand it these boats cruise around Nassau Harbor, not the open sea so it's strange they never found any sign of him.

Most harbors have big sharks due to food in the water. I would venture to say they follow the booze cruise. The Bahama’s has lots of Tiger, Bull and Oceanic Whitetips Sharks.

Looks like he jumped next to sharks from the video on Reddit.

I don’t recommend watching

So did he get taken by a shark, a current or was he just too intoxicated to swim?

If that is in fact a shark, he got eaten.

Looks to me like he swam away from the flotation device because of the shark

The video shows what appears to be sharks, which answers the question of why he swam away from the life ring. He starts swimming toward it, sees the sharks and swims in the opposite direction.

Sort of what it looked like to me too. He didn't appear to be panicking to keep his head above water like someone would be in a drowning scenario.

I can’t see much at all in that blurry video to see a shark. He just looked confused where to swim and the life ring may have been thrown after he turned toward the boat. Is there a second non blurry video?

It's clearly some kind of large-ish aquatic animal. Actually it may have been more than one. If I see a fin sticking up I'm not hanging around to confirm whether it's a shark or a curious porpoise.
