Same.

And I agree with everything you posted.

For example, just today I needed advice on how to handle a particular situation and I called a frat brother for advice because he is connected to that industry.

You literally sound like the dude that graduated that made himself the honorary house dad. If I hated my fraternity experience so much then why the frick did I stay in it? I could’ve easily just fricking dropped after one semester. I am just giving OP the honest truth that’s not blinded by “I peaked in college” energy. If op has to pay out of pocket don’t do it. If daddy or auntie can front the dues, go ahead OP. If you plan never leaving within 100 miles of your college campus, getting in to a dead bed room marriage with a boring job then go ahead and make the best moment of your life more enjoyable lol.

My sweet summer child who hurt you? Just say you had a bad time and you made no friends. At lsu, barely anyone stays in state due to jobs. If you’re actually close friends, you don’t need to live in the same city to go on trips post grad.

If this guy’s nephew finds a group of guys he fits in with, do it. But if he doesn’t then don’t. It’s fairly simple. Regardless of where they’ll be in 4 years. College life as a male is not complicated. As for costs, A lot of frats offer scholarships that can help with dues and sometimes free if you go in a leadership route.

There was one legendary guy in our big house who must have hated it because he never showed up at a single event.

So they'd get him to attend one meeting per year just to humiliate the pledges who'd never seen the guy and usually couldn't recite his personal details as required.

In hindsight it was kinda funny.

Double, I was active from 87-90. If you’re a more recent active, I’m sure I’ve seen you in social media posts typically made by one of the guys I was in with.

I was there 10 years before you. I don't know too many from about 82 on.

A lot of good memories from those years.

So you had old Doc Riess for an advisor? One of the guys in our chapter sent him into a tailspin when he suggested the boys at Tulane liked their smoke

It’s a shame what happened to him after Katrina. The man is a legend at Tulane.

I don't remember a Doc Riess.

We had Butch van Breda Kolff, the basketball coach, as an advisor.

And then Dr. Wacker, I think he was a business professor.

Mainly because with Greek life it’s all about legacies.

I grew up modestly so Greek life was not an option.

ROTC was my fraternity I guess.
We had a future Major General in my class. Mostly future Colonels.
Most of my close friends were in the Army with me during my career.

Having a network is important.
