Shooting the shite with MrsAntiqueTiger last night, I mentioned were we might live when we retire in ten years. She drops a bomb and said she would rather not have a house, and just buy a super nice RV and travel.
I would do this in a heartbeat, but I didn’t think the misses would do that.
I’m talking a high end RV, $150K to $200K range. I’m not sure what this would get us.
She said we would just move every 4-6 months, and travel the country.

Any one here do this now?

Having a home with the maintenance needs of a car.

You do you but I'm gonna pass on that one.

Which I would think is cheaper than a home with maintenance needs of a home

What you should do is start a business and YouTube channel where you and the misses travel across America buying peoples shite.

You'll be able to expense the tin can

Don’t think that thought didn’t cross my mind.

I’ve always sad my retirement job will be eBay and garage sales, but that would be limited if I lived in a RV

I'd do this. Not cheap, resourceful!

For me, in my retirement, time will be much more valuable than cost.

May as well keep the house (or downsize) and get a 40k rig for excursions. She'll change her mind as women tend to do

I've considered a sailboat. Do an Atlantic circuit with Summer in the Med and winter in the Caribbean. Lot's of moving parts to that plan. With AirBnB, you can do pretty much the same minus all your belongings.

I just looked, there are some VERY nice ones that start at $130K.
We not buying a $500K land yacht. I figured around the $200K range.

Friends of my parents did this, although they had a house on the north shore. Both divorced and remarried , retired, both had adult kids.

They had a really nice RV pulling a car. They would stay at different campgrounds and work for said campgrounds for a month and head to the next. They loved it.

Not a bad idea but you need a place to call home IMO.

A small lot with an RV covering and an attached 1 br house.

I do not do it, but I've thought about it from time to time.

150-200k might not be quite enough bit it's a decent starting point. Diesel Class As are high.

I got a very nice 5th wheel last fall and paid a touch over 100k cash. Add in a diesel truck and you're under the 200k. I love my 5th wheel and if you go that route, I highly recommend Grand Design.

In theory it sounds amazing but my parents tried this (not to the same degree as it being their only home) and they constantly had issues. It’s like a boat but maybe worse. The thing constantly needs work. And for the person who compared it to an actual house…no. I don’t have to get my house worked on constantly. Do you? With the RV it was something every month. And ignoring costs, it was just aggravating. They could be stuck in a certain location for a lot longer than they wanted. Imagine if you could take your house and drive it all over. Constantly moving, shaking, shifting. There will be LOTS of problems.

I’m not sure you realize what a 150-200k RV looks like, especially new.

My wife has been on me to buy a travel trailer for a few years but I say no way while we still have teenaged kids at home.
