Heard something about this from my kid. Live Oak but said some tests were delayed due to teacher unrest.
Is Live Oak in Watson and part of district 22?
Just wondering why district 22 was needed (or allowed) and paying extra sales tax and property tax.
Basically says for an elementary school and some other improvements, but more wondering if area is allowed some autonomy over school(s) or if this set up was only way district would build new school and make other needed improvements in area (like some kids or neighborhoods were about to get forced to go to different schools without funding new school and improvements themselves).

That is very relative. No one I know considers 43k a good salary.
A first year teacher starts at over $47k in LP.

Now they had to close schools today so these bitches can go complain at a board meeting.
They also changed it last minute from 7pm to 5pm so that the public couldn’t make it.

Public was notified on March 17 of the change of date and time.

I would get my kids transferred out if I saw any of their teachers wearing this shirt.
Anyone wearing this shirt is likely overpaid and apparently well fed.

Teachers wearing shirts saying "I'm not worth a PENNY … help us BE HEARD" gathered Thursday evening at the front of the school board office entrance near the roadway, waving signs asking passing drivers to support teachers.
Anyone wearing this shirt is likely overpaid and apparently well fed.

That’s why they needed the day off. To come up with that shite and print it on tshirts.
They’re their own worst enemies.

Board meetings have been at 5pm the last 3 years. Yet again uninformed post

There is no industry to supplement the tax base. Most funding comes from the state MFP. LP has always done more with less funding

And, after 25 years of dedicated service, they earn a whopping 57k.
Then, after 30 years of dedicated service, the teacher finally gets to retire with another whopping 2700/month after taxes. Wow. I'm jealous.

Why aren’t taxes and childcare included?
I was not on the team that put together the cost-of-living analysis and would have no idea why the included anything or left anything out.

It’s easy to make an argument fit your side when you pick and choose what to include.
I was uninvolved. I just googled the answer that somebody asked for.

Wouldn't they also get SS, Medicare, etc., from wherever they work when they are not teaching? Or SS and whatever other pensions they earned?

The contradiction of the OT is truly amazing to watch.
On one hand, they all make $100k coming out of college and have millions saved up and anyone not making $100k is a sucker.
On the other hand the professionals that teach their kids make "too much".

Is it as amazing as watching those dedicated educators who take the day off to attend a school board meeting? At night?

Well if they showed a little More professionalism maybe they’d get a little more support. And those OTers being so callous don’t get three months off of work from May to August in addition to every single holiday, every weekend, weather days, etc.
Come to think of it, maybe that’s why those $100K OTers make what they make.

Louisiana is among the worst in public education. The state’s economy is so fricked up that a 1% tax for a raise is where the line is drawn? Geez.
It’s not paradise in Texas, and I don’t particularly love what I do anymore, but the battles between teachers and the public don’t seem to hit this fever pitch where I live.
This board is littered with people who work from home, admit to watching LSU events and other things during the work day, and are OT ballers, but shite on teachers. I’ll never understand that aspect.
Have a mutual respect. I respect what refinery workers, tech workers, etc do. I’m not in those industries, so I won’t pretend to know all about them and shite on them when they want a little more during times of economic hardship.

I seriously doubt it. In Texas, you do not.

So all they have to do is teach for another 3 months and they double their salary? Math is not your strong suit.
Oh wait, that's probably their fault, too.

How can that be possible when we have had economic development wins announced every month non-stop for the past 10 years?

Bro they’re home by 330 every day and work 38 weeks a year. They’ve got good benefits and can retire at 52. Plus they chose their profession. We’re not dealing with an apples to apples comparison.
