Is Skenes the top starting pitcher in baseball now?

I feel like coming into the year, you could say Skenes was a top 3-5 arm in the game.

Dollander was considered by most to be the top arm.

I know it’s early but holy crap, this Skenes cat is one of the most talented pitchers I’ve ever seen at any level.

An 6’6 245 pound imposing righty who throws 100 and has impeccable control and devastating secondary pitch.

We are all clearly biased, but man Skenes is really gonna make him money this year.

Don’t worry, Hurricane Mike or SMD will be in shortly to tell you that one player got a base hit off of Skenes a few games ago so therefore he’s nowhere close to being the top pitcher. Mainly because he plays for LSU.

Until teams start hitting him, he’s definitely up there.

One of the top two or three. It’ll work itself out. He’s looked outstanding. Hasn’t faced the stiffest of competition yet.

It's been awhile since I've seen a pitcher able to mow down batter after batter and never take a step back until he gets pulled. Dude has got to be part machine.

According to that one guy here… “No, because hitters are making contact with his fastball”.

He still has to do this in sec play
I’ll reserve judgment until then

Dollander did it in sec play last year

Skenes could very well be in a major league bullpen by sept if he keeps this up

We should not lose a game he starts. If we do it will be the end of the world for this season.

Career is 130.1 IP, 35 earned runs, 96 hits, 162 strike outs. He is really good and getting better.

How does the draft work for a junior? I assume he is draft eligible after this year?

Having only seen 3 games of Skenes, I think I'd still take Lange over him in the "stuff" department.

Totally fair! Very reasonable response.

So far so good though!

Meh on Lange. Nola on the other hand.

He looks like Stephen Strasburg. Enjoy the ride.

He's so much better than Lange was at LSU. Not even close.

Lange had better pure stuff than Nola, not to say Nola didn't have nastiness as well but Nola also had elite command.

Lange's curveball is one of the filthiest pitches I've ever seen from an LSU pitcher.
