Got the gore down enough to watch the game a couple of times last night (HD TIVO is very cool) and in retrospect a couple of things jumped out at me:

1. First time in a while I saw the DT's hold their ground. Plus Riley and the other LB's really stayed home when there was a lot of temptation to bite.

2. Patrick Peterson is the best 18 year old football player I've ever seen. His technique on Jones was very strong when he was covering him and when not, he was in the right place basically all the time. All American material, IMHO.

3. LSU's offensive line run blocks like nobody's business in that game. I'm seeing Bama DT's four, five, six yards off the ball or just getting snowed under.

4. I saw maybe four pass plays where I'm pretty sure the receiver was either running the wrong route, or last track of his depth. That plus a couple of drops I can blame on somebody other than JJLee.

5. Lee really did make some horrible mistakes, and despite one really sweet pass to Byrd (1st TD) I could not call that a multi-faceted loss. Sorry. on the 21 passes he threw that were incomplete (13-34-4), I give the O line credit for 1 (blocked pocket backwards), the receivers credit for 4 (none of the pics), coaches for 2 (I'm assuming they called the plays I saw against the WORST defensive alignment possible for that pass) and that leaves 14 really bad, out of his mind, poor execution plays out of 34 times when he threw the ball (hope my math holds up).

A lot can happen in 14 plays, good and bad. This time it was pretty bad.

Than tell me what lost the game for us on Saturday.

Calling 34 pass plays with a struggling redshirt freshman QB has to be at the top of the list.
Especially when our O-line was opening holes for Scott and KW.

Overall I like the Presser...Miles is pretty much not phased by the loss, and I think because he knows the team outplayed Bama, we had 200 rushing yards on them...The D was great, would like to have about 2 plays back. Discussed several way we could have won, not blaming everything on the QB...That is coaching..everyone can get better! and has too!

Miles said that was the first time he can remember coming up short in a game when you get 200.on ground..

He is loyal, and trying to say, hey, Lee, we got to keep believing, keep working, he can be good, he talked about not getting too emotional and focusing on the task..that is Lee's problem, and the situation we put him in..3rd and longs

probably should have run and punted!

miles like the effort, I did too...a Tough loss, but i can accept it because of the effort.

We almost over-came 4 ints, against a top ranked team..

I think we finish strong!

Note: no one asked about the Co DC this week

Les' body language, his "between the lines" communication, all says, "Look, I know the kid has cost us a couple of ballgames, I wish he did a better job, or we had somebody better, but (i) it's a team game, win or lose, and (ii) he's the best option I have, and I have to stay behind him."

Thanks Rocket, I really like this guy too. Watching the video now and like his answers. Good take on J. Lee that he had too, I think.

right because Miles has perspective and the people on the internets with all the answers have no perspective whatsoever

lee is what we got, if JJ was capable of playing he would be, but he isnt playing in a desperate situation. That should tell us all a lot about where jefferson is.

to people on this board LSU players are little numbered robots that are supposed to give us what we want. To miles they are people with real problems and real successes and failures so I think it is safe to say he knows what the problems are and he also knows what his limits are in fixing them

I remember Saban being vexed by the limitations at QB of Marcus Randall/JRuss/MattFlynn too.

this board often reminds me of the old adage, a person is smart but people are stupid

Thought it was a good question, and good answer from Les, about just how little practice time the 3rd string QB gets. Not until Hatch went down a couple of weeks ago did JJ start getting decent reps in the game plan and working in 7v7 and team drills.

All around a good press conference, even the beat writers asked mostly good questions.
