Brookhaven, Miss - It's not in Louisiana but close. We own land there and are soon to homestead it. Don't have the high Louisiana car insurance rates. Far enough from the Gulf to not get hammered by hurricanes. Currently live in Ascension Parish. Always threat of flooding. I have hurricane insurance with my deductible Ida cost me $20,000 out of pocket. Property taxes are high here and traffic is terrible. Brookhaven is a quaint quiet little town that doesn't have the social ills of living close to Baton Rouge or New Orleans.

Myself, I’m looking at MS. I went there for college, and still have friends there and relatives with camps in the state. Seems nice and peaceful as long as one avoids Jackson.

Bingo. Me too. Brookhaven. I have had enough of Ascension Parish traffic, taxes, and rising crime. We sold our business three months ago. Presently clearing our land for homestead. Agree about Jackson. Same style government in Baton Rouge and is a shite hole like BR. Democrats run the government.

that's the opposite of where i would want to retire. it's for vehicles and 12 year olds.

Franklinton Is cool if you like BFE.
Maybe for early in your retirement.

Zero access locally to good healthcare there.

That really matters to old retired folks.

I’m not sure what Could force you to retire in Louisiana, I’d do everything I can to avoid retiring here. But if you have to live here I’d pick Mandeville. I’d buy a house somewhat close to the lakefront and just make sure it’s never flooded before

Seems like there’s some nice cool south LA Cajun type town that would be nice?

Not this one. Ruston is bland and soulless, infested with pine trees and pine tree people. No thanks.

I would spend my retired summer months in Grand Isle fishing and boating. There’s plenty to do each weekend and Hurricane Hole certainly is a good option with decent food and and live music.

Not too sure where to spend the remaining six months of the year in Louisiana…

Brookhaven is very underrated. It's an oasis in that area. McComb and Hazlehurst suck and Crystal Springs is mid, but for whatever reason Brook is nice.
