What it did do is create a massive gap in society, rendering many Americans unable to maintain their living standards by simple professions. You had to become a hyper-specialist to make it in the new economy.

Globalization and the financialization of our economy over the last 40 years has enabled a lot of this. There is a strong argument that a lot of those trends are breaking down with the move to a multipolar world.

Grew up in a blue collar family and currently have a white collar job. I am seriously contemplating returning to a blue collar craft to take me into retirement but I will be the owner and the craftsman. Something extremely satisfying making things with your own hands. I have very little sense of accomplishment sitting behind a desk.

100"s? As in plural?

Even at 100k you are doing it way, WAY wrong lol....

I graduated with an econ degree and then got a post bacc in computer science and barely took on any debt. With no help from parents or relatives.

Even if you fricked up your high school and don't have parents helping out, if you amass 100k and aren't a doctor/lawyer/MBA/STEM Masters graduate, you seriously fricked up somewhere along the way.

Or they went to private school, which is the common theme you see in media stories about student loan debt.

I think certain factions within our society do, but I don't think society as a whole does.

Some people hate working in an office or sitting at a desk all day.

They started looking "down" on the skilled trades when it was decided that "everyone needs a college degree to get a good paying job". We now have a looming shortage of skilled workers in every trade; welding alone is 600,000 positions short of what is needed. You will also notice that nothing these days is fixable; if it breaks, toss it away and just buy a new one.

Schools stopped investing in teaching these skills at the same time; thankfully, they are investing heavily currently. I made a nice living working with schools rebuilding their skilled trade offerings until the travel became too much.

I think you may be confusing "construction worker/plumber" with "fry cook at McDonalds."

The "society" you speak of is the Media, Hollywood and woke Leftist idiots.

Anyone with a clue knows that the most important people in your life is your garbage man, plumber and construction workers.

There's a reason you don't see many people 50+ in blue collar roles.

That’s generally because people don’t take care of themselves.

Nothing to do with the amount of work.

plumber, electrician, mechanic, or any other "low-skilled" job

I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't call those jobs low skilled.

Last thing I want is a low skilled electrician working on my house.

Get your Private, build up some hours, and many companies will foot the bill for whatever certifications they require.

Friend of ours from Church took the same path, years ago, moved up to flying charter planes (like WheelsUp), he was flying a Pilatus PC-12, then another company liked him so much they footed the bill for him to get certified on jets. He's now flying personal/business jets out of Arizona, and flies all over the world.

First off they are not low skilled jobs, the take years of training. Second off they make more money than you and have job security you can only dream of

So to my point, you fricked up...

If you are getting a general studies degree at a private college and amassing 100k+ in debt, you fricked way up

I thought most of the big boys had done away with the degree requirement?
